As I got older, I became more and more uncomfortable with how easily value was conflated with usefulness. Many people felt literature was not as valuable as more "practical" fields, but I chose it because I believed not everything must justify its existence through usefulness. Literature convinced me that reason and humanity are themselves worth preserving. Most importantly, it formed my habit of judging ideas, a principle that guides the way I think and my aspiration to study law.

Your choice of topic for the statement is quite good. However, I would avoid redundancy in my writing (more and more) just to meet the word count. The thing is, you need to make sure that every word, phrase, and sentence you develop will help to move your statement forward and make your ideas stronger and more impressive to the reader. I would avoid the use the term "judging ideas" because a literary professional would tell you that there are no right or wrong ideas and therefore, there is nothing for you to judge. Perhaps, being someone interested in the law, you can rephrase that to indicate how literature and its varying ideas have helped open your mind to the world of vast opinions that cannot be judged on its own because of the validity of ideas, unless there is a law to guide the school of thought. Some similar presentation in your own words should work well to strengthen this statement.
