In 2021, as Head Girl of Animwarao JSS, I reformed our chaotic Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) day. The old system forced parents-including elderly grandparents-to walk between distant, hot classroom blocks to find teachers. Seeing them exhausted and confused, I identified a systemic failure and took action.
Leadership & Creative Reform:
Four days before the event, I convened a meeting with the student leadership, form captains, and the Deputy Principal. I practiced inclusive leadership by presenting a new plan and actively seeking their critiques. We reached a consensus to move the entire event to the school hall (Mwaneaba). I designed a "Centralized Hub" with a large rectangular table layout where teachers sat inside at designated spots, allowing parents to roam the perimeter easily. To address the heat and hunger, I creatively integrated a Form 3 fundraising café, providing refreshments while generating graduation funds.
Execution & Results:
I used strategic delegation to ensure a smooth flow. I assigned Senior Prefects as navigators to guide parents and Deputy Heads to manage registration slips, while I personally oversaw the final distribution of academic reports. I also managed resources responsibly by involving only Form 3 students in the heavy setup, ensuring younger students got home safely on time.
The result was a seamless, dignified event. Parents and staff praised the "positive flow" and the lack of physical strain. By centralizing the process, I transformed a disorganized day into a professional school tradition.
