azurae 1 / 1 Jan 19, 2011 #1Hi. This is my first time writing a college essay and i was hoping i could get some tips. The prompts is for admission to Florida State University. "For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life."This prompt seems perfect for me because i rely on my strength and ability to understand other's struggles. But i don't want to sound unprofessional.I wrote down some key topics i would like to discuss in the essay.- I wish to pursue a career in Pediatric Nursing- Strength and good character are needed in the field i want to work in- These morals were instilled in me at a young age- Having been through struggles with my family and alone i understand the importance of having strength and knowledge to rise out of those difficult timesSo can anyone give me some tips?

Then, provide specific examples of your moral and intellectual strength, the beauty of the intellect needed in your desired field, and the character you posses as a result of your upbringing. What characteristics best exemplify your values and your beliefs? Relate this back to your choice in school, and field.The best thing to do (for me at least) is to just write a basic draft of what I want to say, then go over it again and revise it until I feel that it flows well and sounds how I would expect it to sound as though a professor had written it. It sounds funny- but if you read it out loud it can help you to catch simple errors and determine if it flows well.It might not be much help- but at least it is a start!
