"playing on a lacrosse team" - Vires, Artes, Mores FSU (how to start?)

In my English class were working on college admissions essays, and I'm not sure how to start on mine. The prompt is..

"For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strengths of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life. "

I am interested in writing about how playing on a lacrosse team throughout highschool has shown me how strong a bond of a team can be. Would that follow along with Vires? Or should I write about something different? Thanks!

You could go with Vires, and the strength of a team bond there. Or with Mores, and how traditions got you closer together, I suppose.

Well, the topic seems totally generic. Do you actually have something to say about it? Don't be offended by my candor; I just want to point something out in case it helps you avoid an error: too often, kids write about something without really having anything to say.

your job is to search for the spirit of vires. Where did you find it? Is it strengthened in the company of others who share a common purpose? What is the THEME of your essay, the message?

It can be about Lacrosse, but only if you have a real message to share.
