'the profession of photography' - A Statement of purpose

This is the hardest thing I have written in my life. I hate talking about myself so I have no idea how to write this without seeming conceited or opinionated so your comments are highly valued. I fear that this is way too short, boring, repetitive and filled with run on sentences. This is my first draft talking about who I am and why I do what I do, the word limit is 500.

A camera has always fascinated me, with its ability to capture and still life. I feel like a magician when holding a camera because it allows me to express myself and my aesthetic values visually. I can be an artist, controlling how the picture turns out in terms of color, content, definition, highlight and focus.

Photography cannot just be a hobby to me, it has taught me who I am as a person, my place in this world and how I react to every day situations. When I first started to take photography seriously I noticed that every photo consisted of many little details that made the concept of the photo change through time. This made me realize that everything found on this earth has a meaning and is of importance and that life is made of good and bad experiences but what matters is your outlook on it and how you react to it. My goal is that after attending [University], I will be able to put myself, my opinions, experiences and emotions into a snapshot that will; with one glance show anybody who I truly am.

Unfortunately, I have little professional photographic experience only independent work. I have been hired as the photographer for family functions and this has taught me to pay attention and not miss moments in order to fully capture people's expressions. In attending [university], I will try my best to correct this by taking on projects and gaining knowledge and insight in the process of working professionally.

In [university], I hope to be in an environment that would inspire and push me to strive for the best in my work; where criticism will make me unafraid to explore and push the boundaries to achieve a place in the profession of photography.

Photography is not just a hobby to me, it has taught me who I am as a person, my place in this world and how I react to everyday situations.

When I first started to take photography seriously, I noticed that every photo consisted of many little details that made the concept of the photo change through time .---It would be nice if you elaborate here a little.

This made me realize that everything found on this earth has a meaning and is of importance, and that life is made of good and bad experiences. butWhat matters though, is your outlook on them and how you react to them .

Unfortunately, I have little professional photographic experience, only independent work.

Good luck with school and have fun!
