So, i know this is pretty bad but its only my first draft. I'd like some feedback (what to take out, what to add) Thanks....
The best advice I have ever received was not truly meant to be advice, but simply a request from my father: "You should read The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost".
I was fifteen when my father asked me to read this poem, and I, being the naïve teenager, replied with a nod, knowing that I would not do so. Reminiscing of my early teenage life, I understand now that the biggest mistake I ever made was not reading the poem minutes after my father told me to. The idea of this poem, mainly the last couple lines, has molded my thinking and I know will remain with me for the rest of my life.
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."
The second half of the final stanza says so much that 500 words cannot begin to explain how much this poem has affected my life.
I interpreted the last couple of lines as a man who took the necessary risks that led him exactly to where he wanted to be; where he is happiest. Where do I want to be? This is the question I ask myself, and the main reason I, and everyone else should, take risks. Everyone has a different answer to that question, and for me it is starting my own business. I know that the only way to get to the place I want desire is if I take the necessary risks. "Playing it safe" my entire life will not allow me to answer the question truthfully because I will know exactly what is coming next. But, taking the necessary risk, without the fear of failing will lead me to where I want to be. This is because I do not see failure as a harmful, but rather a sign telling me that there is room for improvement. With these failed attempts and risks, we will learn, and eventually grow to be where we are happiest, similar to the man from the poem.
My father's simple request to read a poem he enjoyed, led to the best advice I ever received, which has transformed me into the person I am today.
"how much this poem has affected my life." how? maybe give some examples here as well
"which has transformed me into the person I am today." you should describe yourself. say that and at the end add a dash and write few traits of yourself
something like"which has transformed me into the person I am today." -- open minded, kind, or w/e
i think you should spend more time on the poem's impact on you cuz you take up more than half the essay introducing it
