I need to write an essay on an obstacle I faced - Krannert MBA essay

Hi everyone,

I am applying for an MBA to multiple schools and one of the required essays is on an obstacle that I have faced in my personal, academic or professional life and how I over came the obstacle.

The one idea I have right now is the dilemma I faced when I was working towards earning my master's degree. I got a job offer from a start up company and I was also interviewing for finance jobs in NYC. I had to make a decision on which route I wanted to take. Would this be considered an obstacle?

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I think your idea is good but don't just tell a story.
You should clearly state, WHY was this an obstacle for you.
I believe it is better to write how this obstacle changed or effected you.
Also, why you chose this obstacle for your essay (why was it significant?).

The reason I am choosing this obstacle is that my parents had funded my bachelors and masters degree and I had a choice to make. I suppose I did not want to be financially dependent on them due to my career choice. Start ups certainly are a risky proposition as compared to mainstream. It worked out in the end though :)

I will take your points into consideration for sure. I was just confused whether one would consider this an obstacle.
