"Hi, the weather in Hanoi today is not wet but I'd like to get my feet wet by posting the very first essay discussing about hot topic "book vs experience". It would be nice if you guys, my friends, comment on my post"

It's a question that has been debated down the ages. Many centuries have passed, but human could not have the right answer for that question: Are books more important than experience? Many people prefer experience to books because they favour specific skills over theoretical ideas. In my opinion, books plays more significant role in the court of human life than experience do.

Firstly, books bring reader pleasure which experience itself coud not help. In the past, many scholars, scientists, politicians and ordinary people regarded books as a source of entertainment. In addition, by reading books over hours to hours quietly, readers learn, practise and gain self-discipline, one of characteristics that matter most in our lives.

Secondly, books are superior to experience because book is the wisdom bag of mankind. In a sense, book is the bridge of thinking between generations to generations. It would not wrong if we consider the history of mankind is the history of books due to the fact that book was invented in very early age. Knowledge from books varies in numerous fields: culture, polistic, history, sport...therefore, books cover huge and comprehensive knowledge that has been accumulated during the long history of human. Therefore, people gain maximum benefit from books by studying them. In contrast, experience exists in small fragment that one has accumulated during his life. Sometimes, knowledge from experience can only be applied for specific idividual in particular place at right time. Frankly speaking, experience cannot play a role as the wisdom bag of mankind as books do and experience itself cannot gain huge benefit for humand as the whole like books do.

Thirdly, in a sense, book is the collection of experience that is summarized, categorized into concrete words in a systematic layout. By reading books, readers aquire maximum knowledge by minimum time. Moreover, books not only teach people how to avoid mistakes and dangers but also instruct them to do the right things. That is why books have developed in various shape and size. Today, billions people read books everyday in million libraries. Amongs them, there are also the elderly who have much experience in life.

However, some may hold an opinion that experience is more important than books by showing that people cannot learn how to either swim until they get into water or drive until they sit on front seat. That is true, nevertheless, for most people either swimmers, cook, or drivers etc, before the very first experience, they have to read instruction books. That is the way that wise men do.

Inconclusion people can acquire knowledge from two great resource book and experience, however, as the whole, books play more important than experience.

....but we have still not found the right answer for this question.

Many people prefer experience to books because theyfavour specific skills over theoretical ideas.

.... I think the subject you need to deal here with is not about skills... It's the practical approach or the theoretical approach; Experience contributes to practical approach while Books contribute to theory :)

dear Dumid. I appreciate your comments. They are really helpful for a non-native speaker like me. However I don't think there is big difference between skills or practical approach. :) because skills are what you learn from doing s.th or from practical approach. In some perspectives, for a vietnamese I think there is a slight difference.
