Hello,
I am having trouble stating my classification essay. I have chosen a topic on TV programs. I want to write about my favorite tv program which is crime show. I want to describe three different crime shows: Bones, CSI (crime scene investigation), and Law in Order. Am I going in the right direction? TV programs is very broad topic, is it ok to narrow it down to these three tv shows? Please help me clarify my ideas about classification essays. Any tip will be appreciated.

Yes you are on the right track, nice job. You could focus on one certain theme that all of the shows have. compare them to each other. If it is about how it is your favorite, go with a theme that matches your feelings about the shows and why they are your choice for a topic. Give some interesting facts about the shows and wrap it up with a witty conclusion (maybe a crime show joke) If you have anything written, please post it in a new thread and we can try to help you :)

Here is my first draft. Thank you in advance for your help.

When I clock out at the end of the day in my office after ending my long day dealing with piles of papers, answering and making high volume of phone calls and replying or writing tons of emails, I only have in mind running and making it on time to the "L" to take the 4:37pm train that will take me home to spend quality time with my family, enjoying a delicious and homemade warm dinner. But, what happened after that quality time is over? It is time to tune the T.V. to channel 50 and wait for one of my favorite crime show. There are plenty of crime shows that contain forensic investigation; crime scene investigation and law enforcement, remember that they are no close to the reality. One day I was switching over all the channels and I found a crime show, it was Law and Order -SV, I got hoop on it and became my favorite crime show for months. After a while I decided to look to similar crimes shows in that genre and I found CSI: Miami and Bones. All three shows kept me entertained for a long time. I was fascinated by the plot in some of their episodes and the similarity they have in common as well as the outcome of each case. To understand my point of view, I will try to describe them as follow, first I will describe Bones, then I will continue my description of CIS: Miami and last I will give you the description of my favorite one, Law & Order - Special Victims.

Firstly, Bones is a crime drama television series base on forensic anthropology which mean per Wikipedia encyclopedia - "application of the science of physical anthropology and human osteology in a legal setting, most often in criminal cases where the victim's remains are in advance stage of decomposition". Each episode focus on an FBI case file containing the remains of an unidentified possible murder victim. The team provides scientific expertise as well as the Special FBI agents provide their investigation technique. The plot revolves in a lab with a team of technician that used their skills to solve a possible crime mystery. For example, the other day I watch one episode where the victim was faceless due to severe body burn. The technician reconstructed each piece of the face, and then they made a sketch to identify the victim and gave the sketch to the Special Agent of FBI who looked up in identification database to find a similar face for a possible name. At the end of the episode, the victim was identified, the case was investigated and the responsible murders were brought to justice.

Secondly, CSI: Miami (Crime Scene Investigation) is a police procedural (depict a number of police-related topics such as forensic, autopsies, the gathering of evidence, the use of search warrants and interrogation) drama television series were the police uses police force to investigate crimes. I remember one episode that happened in Dade County where a tennis coach was killed. That night the group of forensic and skill investigator put all their effort to solve the mystery well done crime. In the lab, they used the most sophisticated equipment they have and in the police department they passed an order to spread throughout the city of Miami the most skill undercover special agents to use their clue skills into the investigation. The boss of the team a special agent Grisson, made enemies very easily and his favorite quote: "I'm wrong all the time. It's how I get to "right". After so many challenges they encountered, they caught the criminals and brought them to justice.

Lastly, Law & Order - Special Victims, is a procedural and legal crime drama television series. The oldest aired and the longest-running crime show out of these three crime show I described previously. The first part of the show focus on two homicide detectives and their commanding officer to investigate violent crimes. The second half of the show concentrates around the District Attorney's Office and the court as two prosecutors with advice from the District Attorney with the attempt to convict the accused. In the preliminary crime scene examination, the detectives make their first observation in the case, following they come up with a series of theories and evidences. Sometimes they do not have good clues or even they do not have the identity of the victim. They run into many difficulties to find the suspect, and then the case is aired with the prosecutor to make the arrest. Before the case is brought to trial, the prosecuted tries to arrange a plea-for-information deal. In occasions, the police are called to testify in court about the investigation. Once the case is in front of the Judge, many preliminary investigations lead to a second suspect. In many of the episode that I have watched, the victims are young kids in the most part rapes or serial killer. I have a teenage daughter, and each time an episode ended, I was rushing to text or call her to see where she was, with whom she was, etc. I was psychologically impacted with this drama show that I was afraid for my loved one. Even though I watched that the bad guys were caught and brought to justice, still I was worry for my loved one. One day my daughter, told me to stop watching the show and getting so worry about her. I then realized that the show was taking over my mental sanity. The music they used to identify the show is so well know that once you hear your associate it with the show immediately. They used this music to switch scene throughout the crime drama.

The similarities in the plot of these dramas give science knowledge and the understanding of the legal system, but we need to understand that these TV programs are non-real they are merely to entertain the audience.
