Topic: Some people think news has no connection to people's lives, so it is a waste of time to read the news in newspapers and watch television news programs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that there is no relevance between people's lives and news; therefore, humans are wasting time consuming news. While I agree that there is some information that does not directly affect individuals, I completely disagree with the idea that updating the news is useless.

On the one hand, it is understandable why it is time-consuming to keep up with current affairs. The first reason is that newspapers usually post sensational news such as celebrities' lives, individuals' private sexual stories, and so on, which do not bring any real value for society. Secondly, international events happening in distant countries may seem unconnected to the public. For example, political conflicts or elections on other continents hardly affect the daily routines of an ordinary citizen. Therefore, many people feel that consuming such information is not a productive use of their time.

On the other hand, I would argue that staying informed about the news brings enormous benefits to our lives. Firstly, the news provides us with essential information for our daily activities. For instance, watching weather forecasts or traffic updates helps inhabitants plan their commute and avoid heavy rain or traffic jams. Additionally, economic news holds a crucial role in any job. When the government has enacted policies or market trends have changed, individuals can timely adjust their decisions for better financial outcomes or even find new job opportunities. As a result, this helps them to improve their living standards.

In conclusion, although some specific news stories might not be directly related to the public, I believe that reading newspapers and watching television news is highly beneficial and certainly not a waste of time.

Your reasoning approach to the essay is not on the level that the examiner will be expecting. Since this is not a compare and contrast response essay, there was no need for you to represent your opinion of both ideas. Rather, you are expected to respond with a measured reasoning phrase that supports only 1 side, allowing you to use the remaining 2 sentences to provide 2 summarized reasons for your point of view.

That said, the opinion discussion paragraphs should have been based on the 2 compelling reasons that you disagree with the statement. It should have been framed using your understanding of why it is supported by others, but close with the reasons why you believe their support for the opinion is incorrect.

I like the way that you provided a coherent discussion topic for your point of view in this essay. It is clearl and offers supporting evidence. However, that is not how this discussion should have gone. Therefore, the essay will be considered under developed and as such, will be scored accordingly. The examiner will only score the supporting paragraph and disregard the other statement. As such, your score will be lower than expected. Maybe you will receive a low passing score. It all depends upon the opinion of the examiner. Again, your writing skills and logical reasoning are good. However, you must learn to properly align it with the statement expectations.
