Some people think that governments should change the way individuals live

There is a debate about whether the government should intervene in the way people live, while others believe individuals should have full control over their life. I think that governments should have a certain role in intervention but ought not to over-control individuals' lives.

Firstly, those who support government intervention argue that interventions are important to protect the common good of society. While some personal choices are private matters which can cause negative influence on society like smoking, unhealthy diets or sedentary lifestyles. Unless there is government intervention, these issues can lead to increased medical costs. Therefore, the government has a responsibility to educate and protect people, especially vulnerable groups like children. For instance, in many countries like England or Australia, high taxes are imposed on tobacco and alcohol. So, government interventions can bring clear benefits to social health and social stability.

On the other hand, many people believe that lifestyle is a private matter and the government should not intervene too much. Individual freedom is highly valued in today's society. It can be considered a violation of personal choices if the government forces individuals to change the way they live. When people are over-controlled, they tend to oppose rather than follow the law. Moreover, because each individual has different situations, cultures and requirements, a collective policy is not suitable for everyone. For example, in many countries, the ban on sugary drinks has faced strong backlash. Therefore, individuals are more likely to behave responsibly when they feel they are treated with respect.

In conclusion, on the one hand, government intervention can improve community health and decrease the social burden. On the other hand, personal choices are important. In my view, the government should encourage and guide better lifestyles through laws and education, instead of imposing them. This can both protect the common good and respect individual freedom.

There exists a faulty parallesim in this presentation. There are 2 contrasting clauses that require a proper parallel structure between the 2 sentences. The presentation itself has an unbalanced comparison since you first indicate that "there is a debate", then switch to "others believe that" in the same sentence. This is a lopsided run on sentence. You first introduced a concept through the use of "a debate", but then introduce "a group of people", making the presentation unbalanced. This will cause a GRA and C+C deduction in your scores.

Due to the lack of original prompt presentation, I cannot fully analyze your essay. I require the original writing instructions to know if you are addressing the writing guide and discussion format in the proper manner. I cannot go beyond the review I gave you above, which should be helpful to you when it comes to clarity in your writing.
