"pursuit of happiness" - Need some relevant examples for this SAT essay!

Many societies believe that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human right. But it is also true that attainment of happiness remains elusive. Perhaps Bertrand Russell had it right when he said, "To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness."

Assignment:
What gives us more pleasure and satisfaction: the pursuit of our desires or the attainment of them? Plan your response, and then write an Essay.

The persuits of our desires gives us more pleasure rather than their attainment. Therefore, to support my point of view, i need some relevant examples from history or literature. Kindly give your suggestions, thank you.

It is necessary to give example from the history? Can't you give a general example on happiness? I do not have any idea for SAT exam, I am preparing for TOEFL. I am just trying to help you.
