Scholarship / I was born in a beautiful, landlocked country - Botswana. SELF INTRODUCTION FOR THE KGSP [10]

fascinated by the beauty of Koreans

My name is Tshireletso Matsheledi. I was born in a beautiful landlocked country, with only 2million population, Botswana. I was always this hyper female because i played among the boys which developed my love for sports. Karate has been a part of my life since then and through it i learned a lot about life in general. this sport is all about moral and mental aspect to improve as an individual.Being a karateka helped me to realise that you achieve your dreams slowly but surely, no short cuts. I hope to be successful in applying for this scholarship so that the skills that i acquire may help my fellow country men improve our economy and issue of unemployment rate which is very high.

I spent 14 years doing basic education. I started pre school at the age of 5 and began my standard one when i was 7. I went on to complete my Junior certificate after three years with second class and proceeded to my Cambridge for two years.After three years again I graduated with associate degree in Film and Television in 2011.During my study I was attached to the ministry of Local Government & Rural Development under the public relations section. My main duty was to document/film services provided to the community. In 2012 I progressed to my degree which earned me BA(Hons)Digital film and Television and graduated in 2015. All these were obtained from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology,Botswana. I went for internship in the same Ministry as before because they were impressed with my work determination before and spent two years..my contract was extented and i was given another 6 months on temporary basis.

The introduction of kdrama came to me in 2007 and I was fascinated by the beauty of the Koreans and their level of respect and love for one another. The drama series now introduced me to Kpop and I fell in love. The other thing that i realised and fascinated me is that Koreans speak one native language,which i love and like to learn although i know the most important things, which are ,greetings,apologies and thanking. I would love to know more about the culture and I realised the similarities about their culture and our Setswana culture. Given a chance I would like to help some Koreans with basic English,more especially from a tender age even the grown ups who find the language challenging.I will do that voluntarily.

From being known as a nation struck by poverty, South Korea is known as the one of the best successful nations in terms of economy and democracy but this did not come easy because the nation had to rise above the war they faced, so this the reason i want study in Korea..Determination to rise above the top.

Scholarship / My love for motion pictures started from a tender age. SOP FOR THE KGSP [9]

THIS PART OF THE ESSAY IS CONFUSING ME. I HOPE I AM IN THE RIGHT TRACK

showing the gratitude

My love for motion pictures started from a tender age. I watched action films a lot, especially those of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, and every time I was mesmerized. The question 'I had was how is this possible,a person is not dead but he just jumped off the bridge'. This motivated me to find out more in the future, hence the course BA(Hons)Digital film and Television when I started tertiary education. Here I was introduced to other genres, and loved every minute of it. The media industry in Botswana is at an infant stage so I plan to utilise my academic experience to expand my knowledge and the marketability of the industry in Botswana.

First year of my study will be my Korean language learning, where I plan to get extra classes part time with the natives and in turn helping them with the English language which I realised its difficult for them. I plan to be part of production team as a volunteer to get first hand experience and get a glimpse of the production. Attending the greatest drama awards will motivate me to work very hard. I will take part time courses like acting and music since they go hand in hand with my field of study. I plan to finish my study in the stipulated time.

Given the chance to work in Korea, I would to involve more in community service as a way of showing gratitude to the Korean Government for the golden opportunity to study in the best of their universities. Upon returning to my motherland , I will use the skills acquired to better the economy of my country. I plan to start Hangul classes back home and liaise with the Korean government to run these classes. This may help build Korean embassy in Botswana since there is none.

@Holt
maybe I got confused because in the application form, its one page divided by half, where the top mentions goal of study and study plan where you have to talk about title of research and the bottom is future plan after study. the instructions say it should be no more than two pages

@Holt
my revised essay
I stayed with my mom in the school compound and the weekends were so boring, so I decided to always join the entertainment program made for students staying on campus. They would watch series of different films as a way of refreshment. . It was always noisy but all I really enjoyed the atmosphere because I was mesmerized with the scenes only not the dialogue. I always had this question in my mind, "how is it possible for a human being to jump off the cliff, hit their head in a rock and still survive"? I was very curious of this.

During the time of my final year in Cambridge, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology was introduced in Botswana, the first university of its caliber in Botswana. It had a long range of technological courses where the students will be more practical than theoretical. This is a place where I learned more about film making, different genres from television drama and commercials and this led to my BA (Hons) in Digital Film and Television. Upon graduating I reaised that production in my country is at an infant stage. We have only one broadcasting station which is government based. Most of the programs are government based, too official and this limits creativity. Almost half of Batswana subscribe to networks of other countries because they all say there is nothing interesting about our station on my side I just watched my DVD collections. It really bothers me because it is a blow to the country's economy. Having studied Masters in Arts, majoring in Film, Television and Multimedia from one of the best universities in Korea, I plan to utilise my academic experience to expand my knowledge and the marketability of the industry in Botswana and help her government to merge the gap of high unemployment rate for her youth. I would love to get a first experience of the Korean production. I will volunteer to be part of the production and playing a small role will help to get a glimpse of the best. Theater clubs can always be helpful so I plan to join one of those as it will also help me to make study partners for the Korean Language which we are supposed to learn the first year upon arrival because I need to get a deeper understanding of the language for me to do really well in my studies.

Upon graduating I would love to liaise with the Government of Korea to help develop the Film industry in Botswana which is still developing. It will help know emerging production technologies and the commercial and industrial aspects of the international film and television industry. This will help build a better film industry for the upcoming film students.

Film is not only about entertainment, it is a way of communicating to the masses. It is a communicating art for both literate and illiterate. Motion pictures can serve as a comforter to the broken hearted as they can sometimes relate and through film get comforted.
