Scholarship / Hi I'm Queen. This scholarship is for help to drive proper interventions and policies in Nigeria. [4]
A short essay - of about 500 words in English - Giving reasons for applying for the OFID scholarship,
Explaining your educational goals, and clearly describing how you will use the experience gained from your Master's degree studies to help in the development of your home country.
Life experience has been a tale of convictions, persistence and commitment to the improvement of life's quality. As a young lady who grew up in a society with a weak approach to resource control and limited opportunities for necessities of life, my world view has always been that of a change agent, and I have persisted in the choice of my academics to acquire both the substantive and technical skills that will help in achieving my dreams. With a B.Sc. in Microbiology, coupled with exposure to programmatic and research skills, I am prepared to be relevant in improving the quality of life of a largely vulnerable group within and beyond my immediate environment by contributing to cutting-edge approaches that help drive interventions and policies in Nigeria. I have always opined that these challenges can be mitigated if the health sector was better guided with clear and effective health policies. Exposure to OPEC OFID Scholarship makes me believe strongly that I can contribute positively to the world. Through proper interventions, planning and implementation of effective policies, I anticipate being able to bring about much needed change through my contribution to my local society.
According to the 2015 annual reports, the UNDP has supported the government and people of Nigeria in addressing development challenges, through strengthening and building institutions that promote inclusive sustainable development and democratic governance. Upon completion of the Master program, I aspire to work with the United Nations organizations, government, other relevant non-governmental and civil society organizations in ending early child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM/C), and maternal mortality in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, as I would view serving my community and country as the highest privilege of all. With my advance knowledge and experience in real-life context, I will support the country in taking humanitarian services to the door step of the needy by establishing a society where women and youths are safe, protected, empowered and educated to eliminate all kinds of abuse through community outreaches, advocacy, and peace building initiatives. Also, to infuse health care concepts by integrating health awareness in educational programs and conducting campaigns that would lead to positive behavioral change to improved health status. I know that if the health sector is better funded, better equipped and better managed it would carry this vision towards the welfare of the needy in far flung places.
Indeed, the public health program is strenuous and demanding, but I am willing to give it my very best, in taking the work of humanitarian service to the global arena by supporting the cause of proper and sustainable health sector and this will have a positive effect on the people, because I have a solid dedication, academic ability, maturity and desire to become a public health practitioner aiming at providing the populace with direct access to health care services. Being an OFID scholar will give me the opportunity and network to develop my inherent strengths and interest into a successful career and transform my personal goals into a reality.
