Personal information
Dear Sir or Madame
I am a sophomore from the Department of computer science and Information Engineering.My name is DONG YUANSHUN (student id 405414052) .I enrolled in Tamkang university as a student from mainland china in 2016. I am honored to participate in the selection of exchange students. I sincerely hope that I can study abroad as an excellent exchange student so as to disseminate the motto and spirit of my school. At the same time, I have had a strong interest in computer programming since my childhood. As a student of computer science , I have high professionalism (study unity and Android development by myself and take part in some small professional programs) and self-improvement. Therefore, I am absolutely capable of being competent for the new environment and meeting the challenge of adaptation.
Academic performance
School achievement
In my freshman year, I have earned 39 credits, with average GPA of 3.947and average grade of 94.37. I ranked first in my class (1/55),and ranked second in the full grade (2/160).I got 90or more in all my compulsory courses.particularly,I got full marks in Calculus,introduce to computers,general physics and liunx.
Language proficiency certification
Since I decided to exchange in my junior year,I had started to learn IELTS by myself . I achieved a band of 7.5 in July,the time when I took the exam for the first time. It is worth mentioning that I learned through books and online materials for the whole period,instead of physical classes, which proved that my learning adaptability is great and I have the ability to accept new knowledge in a short time.
Personal study
I have participated in front-end web , android and unity developing programs, while I also independently completed the design and program of one responsive website.
I am passionate about MOOC courses like coursera,edx and udacity . Up to now, I have completed the course of algorithm and data structure from Princeton University,introduce economic from University of Michigan,History of Europe from University of Virginia etc with excellent score.
Preparation for exchange
My experience in western countries
In 2013,I went to one of Canadian international high school for 2months as an exchange student.
In winter 2015,I took part in an international winter camp in Tokyo,Japan,where I finished an English speech and joined an study group.
I am familiar with western culture and living environment.
Scholarship and prize
I got learning scholarship in Tamkang in 2016.
I won The title of the best students when I worked as a member of school broadcast team in 2013.
I won the third prize when I participated in Shanghai English speech contest in 2013.
Language ability
As mentioned above, I learn English mostly through moocs and daily talk. During both my two semesters, I have selected English-spoken courses,in order to meet new teachers and classmates from western countries who can help me improve my oral English, thus my English proficiency can absolutely meet the foreign teaching and social environment. In addition, I really like to watch movies and US TV series through netflix in my spare time. This hobby is very helpful for my daily conversation.

I have a personal project which I design and work hard to accomplish now:
Nowadays,there are more and more problem-solving websites based on big data on the Internet, such as chegg, geeksforgeeks and so on.,but I noticed that all these websites have been only treated as a way to copy right answers by students because these solutions are previously written by experts and students sometimes cannot absorb knowledge effectively through this way. Based on the computer vision and depth learning technology now, we are fully capable of developing homework correction app, which goes deep into every steps of the student's answer, highlight wrong steps and give advice, and can even help student sets up a single archive, including the weaknesses of users' knowledge structure and learning schedules, all derived from students' errors.
This is only an idea for the time being, but I have started to learn and explore the first step---digital formula and number recognition.
Extracurricular activities and hobbies
Community experience
In my freshman year,I participate in TKU Mainland China Alumni Association and took part in or organized activities actively , including camping, exhibitions etc.
In my sophomore year, I joined the photo club,and participate in some activities,so now I have a strong interest in photography.
Hobby
My hobbies are very broad. Apart from my own research topics,I also study basic economic knowledge and stock operation in my spare time,his is why I am minoring in the department of Finance and Economics.
Although I am a student in engineering, I am equally interested in literature and history. I have my own thoughts and opinions on Chinese history, especially the history of the Jing and Ming Dynasty. At the same time like to read books, including works by Qian Zhongshu, Haruki Murakami, Junichi Watanabe etc.
Application reasons
My reasons for applying can be broadly divided into two categories, academic and social.
academic
I am very curious about the teaching method in western culture circle. I hope that use this valuable opportunity to try out and learn from the top education systems
2 As for the Department of computer science, western countries like US have always been the pioneer of innovation and development.If I learn cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence,I have to go abroad.
3 I plan to apply to the top 30 schools in the US. One year's exchange study is very helpful to my resume. I can actively communicate with European and American professors to get internships or recommend opportunities after graduating from Tamkang.
Social life
I hope I can communicate with people in Europe and the United States to increase my horizons.
In recent years, more and more Chinese scientists and technology companies are beginning to lead the technological breakthroughs. They include coursera Wu Nanda, youtube Chen Shijun, Alibaba Ma, etc. I have always been interested in entrepreneurship and exchange is an excellent social and technical enhancement the way.
