applying for position in Design departments of Korean universities

I am writing this letter to express my deep interest to apply for phD position available in Design departments of Korean universities. This program offers an opportunity for global development at some of the world's top universities, with great professors, large laboratories and research groups supported by notable corporations. On the other hand, I come from a culture distinct from Korean and I am able to perceive an enormous potential for collaboration, facilitated by the globalization process.

I dedicate my time and my studies to learn design since high school. I attended high school in a full-time technical school in Brazil, in the countryside, where we had classes focused on furniture design. Later I studied interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in arts and design, while working in a company that developed database for software CAD (Computer Aided Design), drawing furniture and various products applied to landscaping. During this degree I was able to be an exchange student in Korea at Chung-Ang University, financed by the Brazilian Government, for one year. This opportunity also led me to do two internships while in Korea in the market research sector, one for a small company and another for Korea International Trade Association (KITA).

When I finished my first baccalaureate, I felt the need to deepen my studies in design and I started the bachelor's degree in design, focused on the development of graphic and products, still studying at the same institution, the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, in my hometown. At this time, I did internship teaching at a technical school, teaching technical drawing, blueprint and also was class assistant at the course named "Fundamentals of the technical drawing". After finishing my second bachelor's degree, I was approved in the master's program at the State University of Minas Gerais, in the capital of my state. During the master's degree, I was able to attend several classes, including subjects such as: materials engineering, chemical engineering and medical image development. to develop my own research and still to work with undergraduate students, developing product design projects, didactic material developments and work with local artisans. Looking back I can say that I am pleased to have tried to make the most of every single opportunity that I was offered throughout the academic life.

Just before finishing my master's degree, I was approved for the position of substitute professor at the university where I studied, the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, initially to teach Fundamentals of technical drawing and Research methodology. I still work at this university, currently teaching classes related to the development of photographic images, graphic pieces and the use of digital tools, such as Photoshop. In addition, I have the full support of a large university to develop product design together with students, I mentor class assistants and professional training projects, working together with other professors, with students and even with other departments. I can say that teaching and researching are the career of my dreams and to continue developing this path I need to study and develop a great doctorate thesis.

There are many reasons that support the desire to do the doctorate in Korea and I hope to make that clear. First, Korea is a highly developed and modern country with access to first-rate technologies, known worldwide for their hard work. Recognized as one of the world powers in education, I can say that I have had the pleasure of studying in Brazil both during the summer and as an exchange student for the Brazilian Government, and I believe I have had great experiences, both in the classroom and in teachers and classmates, in addition to the internships. The cultural factor is also of great interest to me. I appreciate Korean culture and its social construction, I admire the country's structure, organization, labor force and capacity for innovation, as well as culture, customs, gastronomy and tradition, orchestrating antiquity and its teachings together with modernity. I hope to have made myself clear to the application and have the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in Design in Korea.
