Undergraduate / UIUC essay 2 -- discuss your extracurricular activity, go hiking [2]
At the end of last semester, I decided to take a trip from Nanjing to Shanghai to promote the value of ' Green Transportation ' because people here were suffering from serious air pollution caused by the huge amount of traffic on the roads. As an individual, I have no idea about government policies but I believe one of the simplest solutions to alleviate this problem is to walk instead of drive or take taxis everyday. To increase people's awareness of environmental issues, I planned to walk from the west to the east of the province with some like-minded friends.
No doubt that walking in the sweltering month of July appealed little to me; however, I felt this activity was still worth carrying out. During the journey, it amazed me that so many people demonstrated great interest in this event. When we gave out leaflets about tips on the benefits of using our feet, most citizens praised our courage and motives. While we were collecting signatures to show agreement with our idea, one local teenager even volunteered to join our team helping us to collect. Throughout the whole process, I was always motivated by the positive reactions and comments we received, which proved that our idea was widely accepted.
Our team finally arrived in Shanghai. The hiking itself was a fantastic achievement. Not only did we successfully promoting our cause, but also succeeded in ourselves, for we completed the journey on our own! The hike provided me with other new experiences, such as being independent and cooperating with other people. Therefore, it was the most meaningful and achievable activity I have ever participated in!
