Undergraduate / Study Plan to apply for a Canadian Study Permit - Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Systems [2]

study plan essay

Hey guys! I just wanted to ask for some feedback on my study plan for a Canadian Study Permit from anyone familiar with these types of essays. Thank you! The prompt is as follows.

Submit a one page study plan which answers the following questions and includes any other information relevant to the processing of your application:
1. Why do you wish to study in Canada in the program for which you have been accepted?
2. What is your overall educational goal?
3. Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of residence or of citizenship?
4. What research have you done into studies in your country of residence or of citizenship?
5. How will this program enhance your employment opportunities in your country of residence or of citizenship?
6. What ties do you have to your country of residence or of citizenship?
7. Provide details of your education history - dates when the course started and ended, the name and address of the school, the course taken, qualification, degree or certificate awarded for the course

My name is [redacted]. I have been studying at the highly competitive [redacted] School since Class VII in 2015. During my time at [redacted], I completed my O-Levels, AS-Levels, and A-Levels and achieved exceptional grades in all my qualifications. I officially graduated from the institution on the 30th of June 2022.

Having completed my A-Levels in Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Computer Science, I feel confident choosing Canada as my destination for higher education. The identity of Canada, and specifically Vancouver as a center of technological innovation attracts me to studying and gaining experience in computing there. My university of choice, the University of British Columbia, also ranks very highly in global university rankings and offers great access to internships and networking opportunities due to its location and profile.

With the connections and reputation that UBC holds, I will be able to gain valuable knowledge and skills to set up a strong foundation for my future career. I value the quality of instruction at the institute as well, especially considering that the professors and researchers on campus are international scholars who can bring a diverse and informed perspective to my education. I also look forward to expanding my personal horizons by experiencing the multicultural aspects of living and studying in Vancouver.

My educational goal is to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Systems. This degree will make me well-qualified to work in the artificial intelligence industry, especially with its deeper focus on psychology and machine cognition when compared to a traditional Computer Science degree program. The Cognitive Systems/AI major is not offered at the undergraduate level at schools in Pakistan, and elective components of the degree such as Psychology and Linguistics are offered in Canada at a better level of instruction.

Additionally, the access to industry granted through the strong co-op program at UBC will enable me to gain indispensable experience in industry. Internship and co-op culture at Pakistani universities is lacking when compared to that in Canada. Alongside becoming accustomed to the working world sooner than a Pakistani graduate would, I would also be able to gain a competitive edge from interning at larger, more established technology firms during my degree in Canada.

After graduation I will return to Pakistan and begin working in industry. Cognitive Systems is an increasingly relevant degree as artificial intelligence advances and is integrated into various fields such as banking, manufacturing, and technology. Not only would completing this degree make me employable in these sectors, but would present a golden opportunity to participate in Pakistan's largest and fastest growing industries once I return. To Pakistani employers, studying abroad indicates cultural awareness, flexibility and of course a higher quality graduate due to the rigorous nature of academics in Canada.

My immediate family members all live in Pakistan. Most of my close relatives and friends also reside in Pakistan. My parents will be paying my tuition fees and living expenses for me while I study in Canada, and I must return to take care of and support them when they are older.

Finally, I am grateful that you have taken the time to review my application, and I hope you can bring me one step closer to my goals by approving my application.
