Hello everybody, I am applying for a PhD position. I already work in a lab at the same University, and my PhD will be under the supervision of the person I am already working with. I am writing to express my interest in a PhD position in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine, and Clinical Research (BMBIC) Doctorate Program at the University of Sevilla.
The mysteries of the brain have fascinated me for the past ten years. During the first year of my bachelor's degree in Cognitive Psychology and Psychobiology, I decided to pursue a career as a neuroscientist. I vividly remember the first time I realized my passion could become a career: it was during a Psychobiology lecture on the H.M. case- a patient who underwent brain surgery in 1953 to treat a severe case of epilepsy but was left without long-term memory. I was puzzled and asked myself, "How can researchers and clinicians cooperate to provide a better quality of life for people with atypical brains?".
Many events followed that moment. I joined several neuroimaging laboratories, gaining four years of experience in infant neuroscience research. I designed experiments, collected data from human infants, led data analysis for three different projects, and assisted in drafting papers and posters . My experience in the field was further enhanced by a highly competitive, research-oriented Master's Degree, which I graduated from with Honors.
Currently, my research interests focus on neurodevelopmental conditions. I believe that the ultimate goal of research should be to improve society and provide equality for all individuals, and I am committed to contributing to these objectives by investigating these complex conditions.
Earlier this year, I reached out to Dr. Name Surname regarding a research position in his laboratory at the University of Seville. I was thrilled by his work in the neuroimaging field and the cutting-edge methods he employs. Last April, I began working under his supervision on an exciting project: defining developmental brain trajectories in various psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. The project aligns with my career goals, while allowing me to expand my skills. I would like to complement this experience with a PhD position at the same university, to achieve a well-rounded education. I am confident that the BMBIC Doctorate Program will enable me to advance my career as a researcher while gaining state-of-the-art competencies.
