Writing Feedback / Everyone should be allowed to attend university free of charge [2]

The question of whether everyone should have access to free university education is
a controversial topic. While some advocate for eliminating tuition fees to increase
educational opportunities, I firmly believe that students should contribute financially
to their higher education. This essay will shed light on this opinion by providing two
main reasons.

First and foremost, the implementation of free tuition is often limited to developed
countries and developing ones. Universities which have the ability to offer free
university programs mostly come from developed countries, especially in the
European regions, such as Germany. This nation has high living standards and
robust economies, which leads to beneficial welfare for citizens in many aspects of
life including education. In contrast, developing and underdeveloped countries,
particularly in some regions in Africa and Asia, face numerous challenges beyond
education, including poverty, political instability and so on. Therefore, implementing
free tuition in these contexts could endanger national budgets.

Furthermore, in this modern world, universities operate as complex business models
that require significant financial resources to function effectively. Hence, they must
allocate funds for various purposes, including faculty salaries, research,
infrastructure maintenance, and the research and developmet process. These
expenses are substantial and cannot be solely covered by government support or
donations. Charging tuition fees ensures a sustainable revenue stream that allows
universities to maintain high-quality education and services.

In conclusion, while free tuition can be an ideal goal, it is essential to consider the
practical side of implementing such a policy. By charging tuition fees, universities can
ensure their sustainability and provide a quality education for students. To address
the financial challenges faced by many students, universities can prioritize
scholarships, financial aid programs, and partnerships with governments and
organizations to support those in need.
