Biotechnology being my chosen field of study encompasses various global development goals pertaining to public health and clean environment. Not only does it play a major role in diagnosing, preventing and treating infectious diseases but also research in this field aims to present innovative solutions like genetic engineering and synthetic biology to find a cure for grave ailments like cancer and diabetes. The advent of COVID-19 pandemic served as an eye-opener into the massive potential entailed within this field as we realized the need of research to develop an effective vaccine to stop the alarmingly spreading, deadly virus. Besides being imperative in the health sector, biotechnology aims to tackle pollution & reduce fossil fuel consumption with the introduction of biofuel alternatives and to provide effective wastewater bioremediation techniques. India as a country has been largely deprived of the multifunctional advantages that bioengineering can put forth with reference to combating life threatening diseases, improving healthcare facilities and bestowing a cleaner environment for sustainable living. Development theme of 'Good health and well-being' strongly resonates with obstacles to progress because ensuring public health is elemental for growth.
