Writing Feedback / Why is Juvenile Crime Increasing? Exploring essay rough draft [2]

Hello, I'm trying to identify some areas of weakness i have for my paper based on juvenile violence, i do not consider myself a good writer but would love any feedback, thank you so much. I am also based in the US so some of this content may be region specific.

Why is Juvenile Violent Crime Increasing?

Intro

4380 days. 144 months. 12 years old. That's how old a Texas boy was when he took the life of a man in the small border town of Uvalde. The boy, having on his face a black bandana and clothing to sport, did not wake up that day knowing he would take a life. Or that the consequences of his decision to do so would undoubtedly follow him the rest of his life, legally or otherwise. The prosecutors in that case were lenient, and particularly disposed to a rehabilitative route, declined to pursue charges as an adult. The boy, by now 17, likely still is in some form of treatment custody, and hopefully has found some peace. And while the small town of Uvalde, Texas likely will not forget such a hometown tragedy, the nation at large likely has; Just as soon as the social media page refreshes. Until the next time. And then until the next. And the next.

Juvenile violence should be decreasing. Our youths' safety and stability should be increasing. We should be winning. But we are not. And that fact; and those facts, reverberate through us like a wave hitting the deepest aisles of our society and culture. All this, further emphasizing the need for systemic, multifaceted, committed reform, not just of our criminal justice system, but our violence prevention and juvenile incarceration process and we know it. Because if this doesn't change, then this doesn't change.

History of Problem

To understand the present, it's important that we as a collective understand the past; all of this, to change the future. Jasmine Richardson made headlines in 2006 when at the age of 12 she committed the murders of mother, father, and younger brother. Alyssa Bustamante was 15 when she did the same, taking the life of a friend of her younger sister in 2009. It's clear these problems aren't unique to the 2020s, and aren't even unique to the 2010s; and consequently modern social media. These occurrences as you will find transcend geography, race, sex, and income level. They occur everywhere from small towns such as Uvalde to rural cities in Missouri to large metros in the Midwest. Unfortunately, one of the very few patterns to be discerned from the history of the issue at hand is that the issue is an issue. The issue extends far beyond any category, revealing that the category is "any category". Revealing the issue's nature is "an issue" and the issue is devoid of the socioeconomic conditions that influence many other more simple issues as it is seen.

Extent of Problem

Just how far does this issue extend? This issue extends far past its perpetrators such as with the boy from Uvalde and the victims such as the friend of Alyssa Bustamante's sister. The outer reaching tentacles of these heinous acts dispersed into the entropy illicit third and fourth order affects; especially when viewed from the sociological imperative's perspective. These issues affect families, and families of families, and cities, parents, and schools. These seemingly endless effects can't always be seen. But they can always be felt. Causing total devastation, paralysis, and above all, loss, to those unfortunate enough to know firsthand.

Repercussions of Problem

The repercussions of this issue are massive. Not contingent on being relegated to the present or past, these issues invade the future. Our future. The world we live in, the world we leave our children to, and the world they leave their children to are all decided today and tomorrow. The youth involved, victim or perpetrator, often face injury or institutionalization for life; leading to difficulty integrating into society, contributing to society, and helping society. The state is also burdened, often for decades with seemingly no alternatives. We find the cost we pay for letting this happen can be measured in far more than money, but in decades long blows to our society as a whole, including our education, justice system, social institutions, public safety, and legal progression & systems.

Quick Fix Solution

There are solutions, both long and short term, that through implementation can lessen the possible damage and severity of some of the issues, making the fallout less severe. Short term, measures that provide a high level efficacy to the issue are a detailed and granular analysis of allocations of budgets for programs associated with interventionary and rehabilitative efforts intended to curtail the lack of support for young people experiencing behavior and disciplinary issues; which can by redistribution increase how efficient each dollar is used. There also is a need for media campaigns to change perceptions about the issue and raise public awareness and support for causes that seek to reduce these unfortunate tragedies. These together can both positively affect how support is raised, and how best to utilize the support that is raised.

Long Term Solution

Longer term, there are those items that in contrast, while being more difficult to implement short term, will pay dividends in the long run for their immense positive impact and contribution. These longer term solutions are underscored by an ultimate goal to eliminate crime altogether, although this is relatively insulated from the juvenile violent crime aspect. More locally, pursuant to this end are secondary measures that develop a pragmatic capability that combines our increasing level of dependence, use, integration and proficiency with technology with behavioral analytics to make advancements in behavioral science sufficient to detect, prevent, and minimize damage from these types of crimes and steer to offenders of them from making such harmful and disastrous choices.

Conclusion

Think, develop, and organize. These are the tools to be used to create the sculpture that is our future in which we have defeated the issue successfully. But we cannot get there alone, we need to do those 3 on a collective scale, working with each other, not against each other. Working for our younger generation, not having them work for us. Doing this, on both the micro and macro, we can take the next step toward action, in taking ideas and putting them to work. The stakes are simply too high to not do so, because it is not just our past and present where we sit to analyze and view this issue; it's the future. All of our futures.
