Graduate / 'It wasn't a quick decision' - SOP for a Master Degree in Chemical Engineering part-time [6]
My decision to apply for master degree in chemical engineering was not a quick decision. It has been built over a long time of deep thinking and searching. An important reason that led me to apply for this program is the potency of the chemical engineering programs at KFUPM, both material and academic faculty. When I was in the intermediate school, I was interested in the science classes. I remembered that I used to do some of the easy experiments in my home after school.
One of the reasons that led me to choose chemical engineering as my major is the revolution in the chemical industry that we see these days. So, my desire to be a part of this revolution led me to take this decision. Also, working in oil stabilization and NGL plants these days has led me to take this decision of starting a master degree in chemical engineering in order to combine between field experience and academic knowledge that can be gained from educational facility such as KFUPM.
At King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, I have studied chemical engineering. Like any engineering field, chemical engineering requires good knowledge in mathematics, physics and chemistry. In my chemical engineering undergraduate program I have studied several courses such as thermodynamics, mass transfer, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, separation process, chemical reaction engineering, process dynamics and control and at the end of the program I took an integrated design course in which the chemical engineering background is applied. As elective courses I took chemical process technology and elective separation process course.
Separation processes have became vital processes in each industrial line around the world. They can be found almost every were in the industry. Examples of an important separation processes that are used today are, oil stabilization, refineries, sea water desalination, and chemical purification for petrochemical and pharmaceutical products. Hence, my aspiration to complete a master degree in chemical engineering with separation processes is my field of concentration.
After four months of working in stabilization plant, I found that using chemical engineering background is very useful in the daily activities. So, applying for master degree program will positively affect my career by enabling me to apply what I have learned with what I will learn from the advance courses and experience solving real problem.
