Undergraduate / 'What makes me, me?' - Howard University addmission [4]
In 500 words, tells us about what makes you, you. What are your strengths, weaknesses, and your motivation? What separates you from any other applicant? How do you think Howard University will increase your strengths and diminish your weaknesses?
What makes me, me? In my opinion, to determine what makes you, you, you have to think of the life around you, it is just like how Karl Marx quoted 'It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness '. Consciousness is how a human being defines themselves with their surroundings and the things having an influence upon them. I have had many influences on me, having a mother originating from Ghana and a Father with parents originating from Ghana, but my father himself was born in Germany and considers himself German. I was born in Germany too, but grew up in Ghana with my Grandparents and then came back to Germany at the age of 4. I went to German Kindergarten, Secondary school and spent 2 years at a German High school. At this stage of my life, my mother had re-married, to a British soldier coming from St Lucia. My mother wanted to get me prepared, as we will have to move to a different country one day, where I will obligate to attending an English school, so I started going to a British School, organized by Children School Education, at Year 9 and am now currently in Year 13 finishing off my A-levels.
Coming to a conclusion, you can see that I have had many influences on me, most of them were cultural. I believe that I am truly a Ghanaian, as I am proud of my country and give it a lot of support. I keep hold to my Ghanaian influences, but also my German ones, which I consider to be my 2nd nationality. Joining into a British society, I considered being more like an advantage to experience another culture which is one of my interests. What makes me, me is where I'm from and how I have been brought up, to be a young, striving, intelligent, respectable young Girl.
