Prompt: You are required to write a one-page statement in which you elaborate on your motivation for participating in the MSc programme.
Here is my letter:
My passion and curiosity in business and cultural management grow larger and larger as I gain more intercultural experience in my life, especially after my exchange experience. This makes me realize that Master of Science in International Management is the best program for me.
International Business was my first choice when I chose my major as a freshman in University of ___. However, due to the mandatory exchange program and financial constraint of my family, I was forced to give up on my dream major and chose my second choice, Finance. Fortunately, my academic excellence earned me a position in Honors College, which later sponsored me to go on exchange in one of the top colleges in United States for one semester. During the exchange semester, I immersed myself in a multi-disciplinary environment and made friends with students from all over the world. I learned Management and Finance courses with a different perspective, which actually improves my critical thinking skill. Having this experience, I now perceive both academic and social issues in a more international way. In addition, I know I really enjoy living in new and challenging environment that I should continue to pursue my dream of studying international management, in an international environment.
As my dream is to work as a business consultant in an international company with diversified workforce, I strive and manage to work as a part-time consultant in a small business services company now. The workplace is a center for cultural exchanges. It is constituted by Australian, British, and Chinese cultures. On the one hand, clients are from different parts of the world that effective cross-culture communication skill is required. Having been working in the office for five months, I learned some real practices in international business. In addition, I realize that I need further international strategy, marketing and cross-cultural management skill in order to live my dream, and face the challenges in international business life. As a result, the MSc in International Management offered by ___ is a best fit for my need, from its internationalized curriculum design to the multicultural learning environment.
In fact, I especially enjoy the international aspects in my courses that I achieved high grade in courses like global strategic management, and leadership from a global perspective. In my leisure time, I also choose to indulge myself in activities related to cultural experiences. I joined a program which aims to help exchange students to adapt to new environment in University of ___ for almost two years. I was also a coordinator of the program and responsible for contacting and connecting both local and exchange students for monthly activity.
I believe the endeavor and knowledge that are required to complete a Bachelor degree of Business Administration with majoring in Finance well-prepare me to the study of International Management. Combined with the international experience that I gained, I am competent in handling the academic workload and challenges which will be brought by the study.
