Since human beings are sociable inherently, they tend to interact with the people around- neighbors. Neighbors directly affect the social environment we live in, so they are part of our lives. A good neighbor, who is friendly, respectful and helpful, can make our local area a better place to live in.
The first quality that a good neighbor should have is to be friendly. If a neighbor greets you with a smile whenever you see his/her, you feel that he/she appreciates living close to you. It makes you feel that you can account on his/her whenever you need an advice or condolence.
Another quality for a good neighbor is to be respectful. Neighbors should respect each other's possessions and privacy to make a peaceful environment. A good neighbor should not invade your property. For example if he want to plant a tree between your house and his, he should let you know and ask your permission. He should not leave his trash on your place; moreover he should not make loud noise or run a party in late hours of night, which will bother others.
The other of a good neighbor is helpfulness. A helpful neighbor may let your children stay at her home if you stuck working, or call the police in case of a burglary, when you are away.
I believe all people has a duty to be a good neighbor, because they might also need a help or support from the people who are living closed to them, and they need to live in a peaceful and happy environment.
