Scholarship / Scholarship paper demanding acad acheivements and Extracurriculars -SPJCM [NEW]

Hello,
This is my first scholarship application and the committee demands that the applicant should be highly competitive. They have mentioned six criteria of which three has to be fulfilled.

I need to write an essay on
- why should I be given the scholarship
- which criteria do I meet among the 6 that they provided.
I have written essay on three of the criteria : School and College marks, UG college ranking and recognition and Extra curricular. meanwhile I don't know how to gather strong points on the second part "why should I be given the scholarship".

I have a rough draft to be checked by the moderators and to throw some light on the written part as well as on the remaining part of the essay.

Thanks.

Here is the essay.

Do not go where the path may lead; Go instead where there is no path and leave a trial.
- R.W.Emerson

To be true to the quote, I am all set to create a new path and leave a trail, with the pride of being the first person in my family to do a Master's degree and that too in your prestigious institution. The event of getting admission into your college amidst strong competition makes me feel that surely I would reach greater heights after completing the course. I take this opportunity not just to showcase my skills and experience and thus prove my worthiness for this scholarship but also demonstrate my passion for the career that I have chosen.

(i) Standard X and Standard XII marks:
I have been consistent always when it comes to academics. Throughout my schooling, be it middle school or higher secondary school, I have always ranked within the top 5 in the class in all academic years. With constant guidance, support and coaching, I achieved 93% in 10th standard board exams and was ranked 5th in my class. With the same spirit, I completed my 12th standard board exams with 93% and secured 7th rank in the school. Being an ardent lover of mathematics, evident from a 98% in SSLC and 99% in HSC mathematics exams respectively, I chose to pursue engineering degree in Mechanical engineering stream.

(ii) UG, College ranking and recognition:
As college life plays a crucial role throughout one's career, I tried to carefully choose a college that is well recognized, that could hone my skills and amplify my knowledge. After considerable research I found that PSG College of Technology was the best in Mechanical Engineering. I was not only correct in my judgement but the college provided more than what I expected.

Ranked among top 20 engineering colleges in India (Ref: The Week, India Today and Outlook magazines), PSG College of Technology is the only college to have an industry attached to it, which provided practical knowledge with theory. The research and development centres sponsored by industries provide a real time learning experience. As an extension I did my final year project in Rane manufacturing systems lab, providing a solution for real time industry problem.

As another example of consistency, I scored a GPA above 8/10 in each semester and an overall CGPA of 8.51 on 10 and passed out in 1st class with distinction. I was ranked among the top 25% in the class. Some subjects where I stood as a topper were Applied physics I, Engineering economics and Financial management, TQM, Project Engineering, Organizational behaviour and Leadership of which many are important for a managerial job.

(iii) EC:
Apart from book knowledge, one must know how to demonstrate community leadership in the society. I have written a few essays of special mention such as those for Home for Poor and Orphan education (HOPE) and Siruthuli regarding Child labour and Water harvesting respectively. I had led many one day camps like Green Kovai - 08 under Residential Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC). I am an active blood donor and have donated blood at several emergency occasions. All these activities have moulded me as a socially responsible person.

During college days, I participated in numerous technical and cultural festivals at IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, NIT Trichy, Anna university, attended and organized numerous guest lectures, workshops (by clubs like ASME, SAE, ISTE etc of which I am a member), did mini-projects, visited industries and exhibitions.

Besides participation, I served as the student coordinator for an international conference on Logistics and Supply Chain Management and also for an Indo-German workshop. During my employment, I volunteered at an Asia level agricultural exhibition representing my company for which I was awarded with goodies personally by the CEO of the company. These activities have equipped me with the following skills: contingency planning, strategic thinking, time management, group dynamics and importantly leadership.

I always believe in delivering the best. During my employment, I worked in a six-sigma project aimed at reducing the takt time of the assembly line, which gained enterprise wide recognition. With my leadership skills, I was able to lead two continuous projects through which the company realized a savings of 1.25 million INR by means of inventory control.

Reason for applying for scholarship:
Now I would like to take a next great leap in my life. Being a person from a family with average literacy I worked hard to reach this level, being the second person in my family as an engineer. With a medium income of my father as a single earning member of the family by then, my education expenses would have been difficult for him. But recognizing my academic achievements in 12th standard, I was awarded scholarship for all the four years of my UG course by the trust in the company where my father was working. I was able to manage almost 75% of my education expenses with the scholarship. True to the belief they had in me, I did well in college and as a matter of fact, my achievement in 12th standard was published in their company's newsletter, making my father proud amongst a thousand similar workers.

After his retirement, I have taken a decision to pursue my higher education. But still I would like to manage it by myself and I consider this scholarship application as a fantastic opportunity. I think it is time for me to prove myself and make my father as well as your institution to feel proud again.

Thank you.
