Student Talk / My school counselor does not even know my NAME (applying to University of Chicago) [5]
"The problem is that my school counselor does not even know my NAME! How is she going to write a rec. letter about me, and she doesnt even know that I do exist!"
Ok. So just fix the problem, talk to them, schedule a meeting.
Don't be anxious. It's bad for your thinking.
You probably want to answer a list of personal questions about who you are, what your motivations are, what kind of student you are, etc. to your guidance counselor to give them a good idea of who you are. (these are just examples, provide a list of answers to whatever you think they'll need to write an accurate, meaningful recommendation for you).
The early decision deadline is 11/1/12, its only the end of September. So you have a few weeks to get acquainted with your GC. No need to panic.
I don't know about you, but if you're so ambitious about applying to a school like UChicago, why haven't you scheduled a few meetings with your counselor in past years (9 - 11)?
It would seem like a logical thing to do seeing as your GC probably manages hundreds of students.
I did that throughout about 10th and 11th grade year and now my counselor has a general idea of who I am.
What do you think you should do?
