Letters / 'Zheng's diligence, creativity and brilliant skills' - my Recommendation letter [3]
Dear colleague,
It is my honor to recommend ZHENG Chao for matriculation into the PhD program at City University of Hong Kong. I have known ZHENG since he was a student in my lecture of Numerical Calculation Method last fall. ZHENG distinguished himself in my course by receiving the fairly high grade. But this accomplishment only scratches the surface of his ability and character. He is one of those rare people who works very hard and diligently, but does so with a smile on his face.
ZHENG is a passionate and energetic student. In Nov. 2011, he embarked on a project named Stimulation and Visualization of Photonic Crystal Waveguide with me as the supervisor. Since he initially learned the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method, he had been reading many relevant references. As a result, ZHENG's efforts were fruitful: he mastered the methodology that how to analyze the Numerical Dispersion and Stability, Incident Wave Source Conditions and the Absorbing Boundary Conditions. In the next seminar, he had even visualized the propagation of light in photonic crystals by Matlab programming. Working with such an enthusiastic young man, I feel that his enthusiasm which is extremely contagious has spread quickly among the whole group and motivated every member.
ZHENG is a typical student with great self-discipline and strong curiosity of knowledge. He began to investigate a modified Runge-Kutta method for the numerical solution of the Schrodinger equation in my lecture, and he is continuing with his work. According to my observations, one who used to study ahead of others rarely fails to do so afterwards, and ZHENG is not an exception to this rule.
All in all, ZHENG Chao exhibits many good advantages such as diligence, creativity and brilliant professional skills. I have no doubts, that he would be a great addition to PhD program at CityU. In short, I give ZHENG my highest recommendation, and very much hope that the committee judges his application favorably.
Yours truly,
WANG Dongmei
