Undergraduate / "I want to make homes, not houses, homes" ; FIT application [2]
As a child everyone is asked, "what do you want to be when you grow up?". Most children answered a teacher, an astronaut, or even a racecar driver. However, when I was asked I said, "I want to make homes, not houses, homes." To me, a home is somewhere a person feels comfortable in. Making a home yours, to me, means putting everything you love inside. I have always loved art; I believe it's a way to express yourself when you are not able to put your feelings into words. I chose Interior design as my major because it is a combination of making a home and art.
Growing up I started to realize the importance of interior design. My aunt is an interior designer; I loved to watch her work as a child. The way she put together homes, room by room, made me realize that this is where my art can be shown and make homes at the same time. As I grew older I started to draw out my rooms of my home. After a while I began to realize that the art of interior design can go further then just a home, I started to draw out offices and stores.
After High school, I never realized I can move past my drawings therefore I stalled in finding my way back to interior design. However, this year I realized I could pursue my dreams and make something out of them. I hope that in FIT I can work my way up and make the dreams I always wanted to come true.
