Undergraduate / I'm on right track; A New Goal - A&M Transfer / SOP [2]

Judge, rate, edit, criticize i want it all please, thanks!

Topic A (Transfer, Transient, Readmit) Statement of Purpose:

"High school was easy, I learned that first hand. The amount of hours I spent towards academia could have been counted on two hands. Like every young adult, I thought I knew everything. I was ready to jump in the deep end and float down the river and see what successes life brought me. A life of fame, and adventure waited for me past those city limit signs. But as I took my first steps into the cold, harsh reality I was surprised in what I saw, or, the lack of what I saw. In the real world there are no business tycoons offering you giant checks for your impeccable work at a minimum wage job. Nor are there journalist and reporters waiting to interview you for your work in the field of Frat parties and hangovers. All the ideas and dreams I had for my life began to slowly sink besides me. I realized that the life I envisioned for myself wouldn't come so easy. It was an eye opening experience for me, and I think at that exact moment I took a step forward in life.

Some life lessons are simple, and easy to incorporate into your lifestyle, only altering certain attitudes and beliefs that you may have. While others, hit you like a freight train, changing aspects of who you are entirely. I wasn't the greatest student. I did the minimal amount of work needed, always. I studied for tests in classes that were borderline passing, and rarely received A's unless it was a group project. At that time grades didn't matter to me, I never found a reason to be a strait "A" student. More work and effort is all I could see coming from it. I was too busy enjoying my comfy seat as a teenager to notice what was coming straight towards me. It was inevitable though, life hit me hard. The lack of effort in school and extracurricular activities failed to show my talents, obviously. But I took what I could get, and was thankful I received admittance somewhere. After a decent first year of school, instead of returning home like the majority of my fellow students, I decided to stay in the beautiful costal bend and start my adult life. And boy, were my expectations of adulthood wrong. Working a less than minimum wage job to have just enough money to pay for a lifeless apartment wasn't a part of my vision. Instead of using my paychecks for bar service at trendy night clubs, I splurged on two-ply toilet paper and was sometimes lucky enough to get my favorite kind of cereal. I thought at this time in my life I'd be out enjoying the world and making my mark, but instead I felt like life was kicking me while I was down. I knew I had to make a change, if I really wanted change, and I finally realized what's really important in life (to me).

Life isn't about how cool you are or what your social status is, it's about what you can accomplish in the small amount of time you're here. With a new goal in mind, it was time to buckle down and make the first steps towards a new life. I had to change parts of who I was completely in order to move forward. I spent hours in front of books instead of video games, choosing the quite location in a library while friends chose parties and clubs. Coming home late after classes, only to open up my notes and study some more. It didn't sting as much as I thought it would, in fact it became rather rewarding. People were finally asking me to help them with their work for a change. Teachers knew they could call on me while I listened to their every word. That feeling you get, when a test is given back to you with a big "A" right next to your name is what kept me going. All my hard work and effort was worth it when I saw my transcript. The highest marks I've ever earned in my life and I had no one to thank except myself. I know I'm on the right track, and I won't stop until I reach the end."
