Graduate / "Seek and thou shall find"; SOP for MS-CS/Electonics [5]

Knowledge and academicians, associated with dignity as much with austerity in preceding era, have become the new age gold mines and miners respectively. With the human race realizing that this being the only inexhaustible source of wealth, the new age gold rush is a pursuit of knowledge. Knowledge today is what oils the wheels of business and commerce.

The ever increasing applications of computers in technological development demand more efficient networking. Coming from a background in Electronics and Communication Engineering, I have developed a fascination to probe into the arena of Networking and communication in general and Computer Networks in particular which possess a challenging task in interconnecting PC's and Laptops. I am working in Infosys Limited where I was trained in programming languages and computer subjects like OS, Networking Algorithm and data structure; I worked in communication domain where we are providing new software solutions to telecommunication companies to manage their network elements. During this time I developed a keen interest towards programming languages like Java, Perl and Oracle. Thus, after a careful consideration of my interests, abilities and goals, I decided to pursue master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am sure that I am equally competent and equipped with the skill sets required to excel equivalent to a peer who would be from a Computer Science background even though I had majored in Electronics and Communication. I believe it is the interest that drives you towards a particular domain and I have had one so with my stint at Infosys Ltd.

Right from my school days I have consistently ranked amongst the top students in my class. I was selected in one of the best central government school in India after passing a very competitive exam. My consistent performance in school helped me to obtained admission to one of the best universities in the country where I was topper of the branch for the entire Engineering tenure. I have been benefited by the length and breadth of the University Curriculum and was exposed to wide range of subjects such as Networking, Communication, Digital Electronics, Microprocessor, C Programming, Information Technology and Data Structure. The excellent course structure coupled with high academic standard further stimulated my interest in scientific pursuit. My grades reflect my attitude towards courses. As a part of curriculum I actively participated in many innovative projects. As a result I have developed a keen interest and have a sufficient aptitude for research and therefore I believe that I shall be capable of meeting the best standards in research. I have seized every opportunity to prepare myself in achieving my ultimate objective, which is "To apply in practical field what you learn in class". I undertook two projects in my final year which were highly experimental and have been my cherished accomplishment. One project is titled "GSM Automation" which involves controlling electrical devices remotely and Second project is titled "Hand-talk Gloves with flex sensor" which used to convert gestures of deaf people in a voice using flex sensor.

I have undergone software programming and soft skills training in the world renowned training campus provided by Infosys for the six months. I was trained in subjects like operating system, data structure, Algorithms, Object Oriented Programming, software engineering and programming languages like C, C++, ORACLE,PL/SQL, JAVA, UNIX Shell Scripting, HTML, XML, JavaScript, MS SQL, PL/SQL and PERL. During training I have worked in a project to develop "Indian Railway Reservation System" using Perl, CGI as front end, C++ as programming language and Oracle as back end and database. After training I have worked in two telecommunications projects. In one project named "Telstra Internet Direct" we were managing network element which was based on languages like Perl, shell scripting and database oracle11g. My second project is "Network performance Reporting" for British Telecomm where we are collecting data from network devices and preparing performance reports. This project is based on Core Java and Oracle technology. I have worked in application development, maintenance and application support in both of my projects.

I have a wide knowledge of telecommunication domain and I have also successfully passed Infosys OSS-BSS and data communication certificates. I have also successfully attained Infosys Technical certificates as well as external certificates. I have a good working knowledge in languages like HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, Perl, Shell Scripting, Oracle and Core Java. I have also attended many seminars and attended various training programs in Computer science subjects in my company and thus my interest in computer science domain increased day by day. I have also contributed towards artifacts, session recordings and books of knowledge on various topics for Infosys Knowledge Management Repository.

My professional life has helped inculcate in me numerous essential qualities such as teamwork, leadership, work sharing and co-ordination. My academia and work experience enlightened me both a high research potential and a significant growth in the area of networking and communication. What I learned significantly improved my understanding of the subject and further enhanced my fascination for it. I believe that I have the requisite intellectual ability, motivation and willingness to sacrifice leisure for work in order to fulfill my objective of scientific research and the attainment of intellectual satisfaction there from. Thus, I believe that I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to the research work at SUNY Buffalo. Given this background, I can assure you that my technical inputs will be of considerable value to the Computer Science and Engineering department and any project I happen to be associated with.

Thus I have decided to pursue my Master's in Computer Sciences with specialization in the area of Computer Communications, Modern Networking Concepts and Database Systems. I have studied these areas in depth and have made a conscious effort to get as much research exposure as possible in either area. I intend to associate myself as much as possible with relevant research projects, which are in progress in SUNY Buffalo. With an aim towards getting research exposure in the respective fields, I wish to be considered for the post of a graduate research assistant. On my end I believe that the amalgamation of professional and academic approach will provide the perfect foundation for my future endeavors as a professional.

My aim is to do my masters from an institute that succeeds not only in giving me a degree but also in providing value addition in terms of knowledge, which will help me to do quality research work in future. SUNY Buffalo with its current research in areas like Computer Networks and Distributed Systems by Dr. Chunming Qiao, Multimedia Databases and Information Retrieval by Dr. Aidong Zhang, along with its research Labs like LANDER (Lab for Advanced Network Design, Evaluation and Research), Buffalo Center for Biomedical Computing (BCBC) are obvious choices; since it promises to be the kind of dream setting where any professional worth his/her salt could literally "live in" on days on end.

My contribution to your department and institute will be measured more in terms of my attitude rather than in terms of absolute technical terms. I pride myself on having a never say die attitude. Along with this I have an inherently curious and patient nature, which enables me to delve into the depths of any subject or problem and analyze it from all possible perspectives and possible solutions.

I feel that SUNY Buffalo, a renowned research university, is a place where I can gain the knowledge and experience needed to accomplish my goal of getting involved with cutting edge research in advanced computing, with specific reference to Computer Networks. Considering the pioneering work going on at Computer Science and Engineering department in the field of my interest, your department is an ideal choice for me for an exciting research career. At the same time, I am confident of contributing originally to the ongoing work at your department. By working under the guidance of distinguished faculty at Computer Science and Engineering department, I am sure; I will be able to exploit my potential to the fullest.

Keeping this in mind, I thank you for letting me express myself and eagerly look forward to join the SUNY Buffalo. At the end I would like to quote, which suits my efforts and ambition.

"If Intellect can find the right question, learning and research help find the answer. I want to search for answers to all my questions for I believe "Seek and thou shall find".
