Undergraduate / "i feel i am ready to return" - Readmission to Undergrad after 2nd dismissal [3]
I have written my letter to submit to the educational affairs committee, this is my 3rd draft and i have condensed my letter from 5 pages to two. i have focused on the reasons for my latest dismissal and the reasons why i feel i am ready to return, i appreciate your criticisms and look forward to feedback.
I am submitting this letter to request my readmission to the ********* after my Second Dismissal for the summer semester of 2014. I feel that I am ready to complete my journey at ****** and graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. First and foremost I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to review my appeal, regardless of what your decision may be. I would also like to request to appear in person with the Petitions Subcommittee, so I can detail my case further.
After my second dismissal after the Summer semester of 2011, I appealed and was re admitted for the Spring 2012 semester. During my absence in the Fall 2011 semester, I took a job at a call center in ******* so I could keep up with my rent and bills I had committed too. I did all I could to prepare myself for the spring semester and was determined to graduate with my degree. I felt I was on the right track to graduate in May of 2012. During the semester of spring 2012, I encountered an unfortunate situation and was abandoned by my roommate. I was left to pay for an apartment I couldn't afford. You can say that was part of my demise and eventual dismissal, but it was simply due to my lack of foresight. I promise to be more wise when choosing who to surround myself with.
During my most recent dismissal, I felt that my efforts to attain a degree were finished. I needed to find a job and become independent through those means. While working at our family's business I applied to many jobs, and received few interviews. It seemed that no one would consider me as a serious candidate because I only have 6 hours minimum to complete my degree and that I wouldn't be a loyal employee. That is a fair complaint, as no one wants an employee that may leave a few months down the road. As I did during my previous dismissal, I vowed to add and maintain structure in my life. I adopted a workout routine where I exercise 3-4 times a week, This provides an outlet for my stress and anger. I try to keep in touch with family and friends, as they are a positive and loyal source of structure for me. I have also made an effort to read and learn something new everyday, especially if it relates to my major of Sociology. If and when I am readmitted I think these things will help me ease back into the rigors of college.
In December of 2013, my grandfather had fallen gravely ill. Seeing him in that state really put my problems into perspective. My grandfather was in the middle of the Pakistan/India split and migration to Pakistan. Because of his education and constant determination, he was able to provide a home for his immediate and extended family in Pakistan. He then Immigrated to Canada and eventually to Dallas. He would also stress the importance of education and also noted the hurdles he faced along the way. I firmly believe that without his determination to get an education he would not have lived the complete life he lived.
There are many reasons I would love to return to The ********, the most important reason is to attain knowledge. I believe that *** is the best institution in the state and completing my last few hours to receive a degree would be an absolute privilege and honor. I am confident that I have the resources to focus on my studies and only my studies. I will also do my best and take advantage of all the resources available to me. I know that I must take advantage of the STAR and STEP programs, in addition to referring to my respective professors with any immediate concerns. I vow to take a course load that will ultimately result in better grades. With only 6 hours left to graduate, I am confident in my abilities to complete my requirements and graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
Thank You, *********
