Undergraduate / Texas A&M Transfer Essay Technology Management - SOP [2]

I have been taught all my life, that if you want something you must go out and get it no matter how high the wall, the shot will still be worth the climb. As humans, we can put limits on ourselves due to the fear of failure thus remaining in our own comfort zones. By not reaching out from wherever we are and to whomever we meet along the way, we have missed opportunities resulting in more fears. I have feared and failed before in my life. We all fail at some point. What matters isn't the failure itself but how one gets past the fear of trying.

In the fall of 2012, I got an opportunity to start my own business (T.S.T. Services) as a broker for machine shop repair, a job I was familiar with while working for another company. During this startup process and while attending college classes at Blinn, it was necessary for me to personally travel to the client and supplier locations in Odessa, Midland, Reagan, and Fort Worth, TX. All the travel time, business setup and class work proved to be more of a challenge than I had originally expected. While my degree is a step I aim to complete, I had to have a plan of achievement for both. So at this time, I decided to lighten the load by dropping a few classes and finish the start up of my business.

During this transition it led me to realize that maybe my first major, Computer Engineering, was not the right choice for me. Since I was now thrust into the business world I had the thought that maybe that's a major I should try and look into, but my passion was still for computers. So I searched for a major that would give me some business knowledge yet still allow me to follow that passion. What I found was a Bachelor of Science in Technology Management at Texas A&M University and after my visitation with their department I knew it would be a perfect fit. My schedule was then to continue my course work while monitoring the jobs to their completion which was scheduled for the end of summer 2013. I was now finally able to set my sights with a solid goal and make my attempt to transfer to Texas A&M aiming for summer I of 2014. Through all of this, I remembered the lesson of keep learning, keep trying to climb that wall and you will get your shot. I know that if I am accepted, I will have been given that opportunity at my shot for Texas A&M has a spectacular reputation for educating the workforce and leaders of the future. Thank you for your time and I hope you will consider my application for this superb educational opportunity.
