here is my question who was the tragic hero in antigone? creon or antigone? prove it.
this is what i came up with. please give me feedback as soon as possible its due tomm.
Who was the tragic hero in Antigone?
In the story Antigone, the tragic hero is always the protagonist's flaw. In that case Creon is the tragic hero in this story. Creon's tragic flaw is overconfidence.
Creon is one of the main characters. Creon believes that Polyneices should not be allowed any appearance of burial since he fought his own brother for the throne and caused a battle. Creon killed his son & wife.
Anitgone is the sister of Polyneices. Creon sent Polyneices to death. The blind prophet Teirasias tried warning Antigone that fate was on its way but he ignored him. Now antigone is paying the price of living away from reality. Creon's ruling is both offensive and unreasonable.
All that happened could have been prevented if Creon learned to put aside his pride and listen to reason as well as warnings. If he did so, Creon would have found that Antigone didn't deserve a death sentence for burying her own brother even if he was a traitor for "there is no guilt in reverence for the dead." Creon was blinded by his pride. Self-importance has brought Creon nothing but pain and suffering when it frankly caused the damage of his family.
Creon failed to pay attention to obvious warnings and failed to see understandable reasoning when egotism corrupted his judgement. He was truly a tragic hero with a tragic end all due to his pride. Everyone has flaws but overconfidence is something that can bring about much damage and can lead to some one's end.
