Undergraduate / Penn State Personal Statement about gaming, how it can lead to success at uni. [4]
Personal Statement (Optional)
Please tell us something about yourself, your experiences, or activities that you believe would reflect positively on your ability to succeed at Penn State. This is your opportunity to tell us something about yourself that is not already reflected in your application or academic records. We suggest a limit of 500 words or fewer.
Gaming is a large part of my life. If it has taught me anything, it would be that being the best gamer requires knowledge that will not be useful to the game itself, but to the to world around me.
When I play games, I have a strong drive to figure everything out. Over the past few weeks, I tried to understand where this drive came from. This is because when I start out a new game I try to understand the mechanics, I read up on it, I completely figure it out- I want to know how things work. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to understand why things work the way they do. This drive, this motivation to understand has transferred into my every day life, and has helped me exceptionally when difficult situations arise.
Leadership has also been a key aspect about myself. I always look to help those around me to move towards a common goal. Strong experiences in this have been through my participation and head roles in public speaking societies such as the Toast Master's International and Model United Nations club. I heavily believe that oral communication is a precious feature that any privileged person should use to help those around him in both general and work situations.
Competition is a characteristic of myself that has also stemmed from gaming, and my friends know this too well. I will always try my best to attain first place, whilst retaining humility in victory. Defeat is a bitter experience, but coupled with my thirst for understanding everything I then find my faults and correct them.
Characteristics such as those mentioned above would definitely help when progressing through life at Penn State.

I'm not sure of what to write for the final paragraph.
Thank you for reading.
