Undergraduate / Through medicine people's lives are prolonged - Career Goals of an Emergency Room Physician [3]
Essay prompt: Career goals
Since I was a kid, I had always thought about what I wanted to do when I was older. There was never a time when I didn't have an idea about what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to do something that interested me, something that would bring variety into my daily workplace, and something that could help out other people. With these thoughts in my mind, I decided to become an emergency medicine physician. I was inspired to become an ER physician from the shows on the Discovery Life channel like Bizarre ER, Untold Stories of the ER, and Trauma- Life in the ER. I've also always been curious about the hospital and what goes on in it that is not visible to the patients or outside community.
Once I knew for sure I wanted to become an ER physician, I looked up the requirements to pursue this career. I have to do four years of undergraduate training where I will pick a specific thing to major in. Then I will do four years of medical school where I will learn more about emergency medicine and the hospital, and my last step will be to do three years of residency in emergency medicine. However, in addition to that I think the residency will help me the most because it will give me a chance to practice on real life situations, and this will better prepare me for the real world.
I know that is through medicine that people's lives are prolonged, saved, and made healthy. This could help someone get a second chance in life that they deserve, and I value the fact the one day I will be able to help give someone this new start on life. It is with that fact that I am being driven to pursue my dream to become a helping hand in the medical field. With my desire, and passion for this career, I know that I am skilled enough to accomplish it all and be able to help many people during the course of my expedition.
