Scholarship / I have grown up with a great passion for learning foreign languages - self-introduction letter; KGSP [5]

@Holt
Last year, I have been chosen along with other 11 girls to have a special teaching trainning, and during this trainning, we have done a lot of workshops related to teaching. They also gave us the responsibility to organize a camp and each of us (12 girls) had had a group of students where we guided them during the trips and have done to them some different lessons. So what do you think of this!??

amazed by the Korean culture

Hello! My name is Amel, which means hope, I am 21 years old from ***, I was born and raised in a city called*** exactly in ***. I have grown up with a great passion for learning foreign languages. I started first learning French, since it was one of my school subjects, and then moved to learning English after I have fallen for it, and then I decided to subscribe at a private school of English at the age of 17, where I learned more about the English language and had the chance to find the suitable accent for me, which is the British one, and though it is not a 100% British, my teachers always say that they like my accent and that I keep improving. Among the things that I have learned was overcoming my fear of facing public after I have done a lot of presentations, monologues, debates and plays in front of hundreds of people, the thing that helped me to be more confident about myself and anything I do.

Studying at that school made me choose without any hesitation to study English at university. So, when I endured my studies at university, I have got to know deeper knowledge about the English language such as: the culture, history and of course its literature, how it started and developed overtime and got to know the great novelists, writers and poets that appeared through history. During my literature classes, I have done plenty of analytical reports and presentations about different literary works, which made me love literature, and enjoy reading novels and analyzing them, and that created inside of the love for reading, that's why I want to study it in my masters in order to expend my knowledge about it.

Last year, I started giving extra courses to kids in English during weekends. I really enjoy teaching them; they are so sweet and adorable. What I love about teaching them is their excitement and desire to learn new things. I like when I get them involved in different activities, because they always surprise me with their creativity.

About five years ago, I have been attracted by the Korean culture after I have met a Korean friend on social media, where I was amazed by the Korean culture, she told me about a lot of things that made me want to go to Korean. I was amazed by the Korean different varieties of food, customs and also the values that they appreciate a lot. It is great how Koreans treat each other with respect and how they appreciate loyalty, duty and more importantly, family.

Among the things that captured my attention also was the language. It was something new for me, with different characters, sentence structure and different grammar patterns, so I thought it would be challenging to learn this language. Eventually, I started learning Korean, but I stopped due to my studies; however, I started learning Korean again last summer using a very good website called: talktomeinkorean, where i reached level 6. After that, I started talking to some Korean friends in Korean via "hello talk" application, and I even started writing diaries in Korean and give it to natives it correct it for me, but I think I still in a very beginning level.

A month ago, I found out about this scholarship (Korean Government Scholarship Program) so I thought it would be my golden chance to achieve my dreams, and to finally be able to see all the beautiful things in Korea that I have always seen behind the screens only, and also to be able to learn Korean with real teachers who would guide me directly to learn more effectively and to improve my Korean. Just applying to this scholarship has made me dream about a lot of things, hopefully these dreams one day will come true.
