Graduate / Writing a narrative explaining interest in the field of forensic medicine [3]
Hi! I am a little lost with my "autobiographical statement" for a Master's degree I wish to pursue. Basically the prompt says: "Please write a narrative explaining your interest in the field of forensic medicine" there are no other prompts and no character limit.
Please give me an advice on how to construct my essay- content, structure and grammar wise. I have attached below my rough draft. Also, I can't seem to create a good introduction and closing paragraph :(
Although as a young child I had already been watching documentaries about crime scene investigation, it was not until college that I was formally introduced to the field of Forensics. It was through an undergraduate course- General Pathology and Histopathologic Techniques, that I was first exposed to post-mortem examination. One particular activity that piqued my interest was examining cadavers and describing the different anatomical changes brought about by diseases. In this course, I learned that the application of pathology is not merely limited to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, but can also play an important role in providing insight as to the cause of a person's death or injury.
My interest in the field of Forensics further solidified after having worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Y Hospital. In one way or another both fields are interrelated, with both having a common goal of gathering and analyzing data with the application of medical knowledge. Whether the data, such as in toxicology reports, is used in the field of Medical Technology for diagnosis, or as evidence in the field of Forensic Medicine. Additionally, working in the laboratory has provided me useful technical and analytical skills that is needed to become a successful Forensic Medicine professional, such as being detail oriented, following the chain of custody, and doing work with precision and integrity.
I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Forensic Medicine at X College because I believe the school's program will not only give me the much needed knowledge to become a successful forensic investigator, but will also bridge my current knowledge in the field of healthcare into forensics. I am mostly interested in the courses LEP because it familiarizes the student with the rules and processes to better prepare him/her for their future role in the legal system, and PFMII because it delves into the different fields of forensic medicine such as F. Neuropathology and F. Anthropology. Moreover, the mock crime scene and Capstone Integrated Experience will provide aspiring forensics professionals like me a hands-on, real-world experience in a work setting.
