Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answer.

my dominant trait

Since I was a child, I've been realizing that my introvert trait is dominant. I found it hard to speak to the stranger and to the public, even just for a presentation or a speech in front of the class. I considered myself as a shy person, until then, when I was in my senior high school, I completely realized that I need to develop my personality in terms of courage, communication, and the most important thing, leadership skill. First of all, I knew that to be a good leader for other people, I have to be a good leader for myself. So my first step was to lead myself to be more open, to have more courage, and to take any opportunity that could develop myself to be a better speaker, to be a good leader.

For me, to be a good leader is about how to motivate, influence, and the most important thing is how to develop other people. As I mentioned before, I've never had any official leadership experience relating to any project, up until my study in the university. When I was in my college, I realized that I need to gain experience as much as possible, as well as develop my soft skills. I started to join many student committees, student board, as well as student club I was interested in during my college. The most memorable part is when I was being a chairman of a student committees relating to a cultural project. We had such a hard condition due to shortage of funds, but I persisted to motivate my team and keep up their hope that we could get more sponsors to fund our project. I influence my team to keep connecting with companies until the end of the projects. I felt that we have that same hope and the same vision to keep motivated. Eventually, at the injury time, we could get enough funds from our sponsors to run our project.

Apart from that experience, I also joined university marching band group where I've gain my experience related to developing people around me. It was a hard time for us due to the Grand Prix Marching Band competition. We practiced so hard, and there were these three freshmen in my trumpet team. Eventhough I was not the team leader of trumpet, I was actually their senior due to my experience as trumpet player and a prior member. I tried to give advices to the junior, how to be a good team member and a good trumpet player, as well as keep them motivated due to our hard practices, which were almost every day. This marching band-related things have a significant effect in boosting my experience and soft skills, particularly in team-work and developing people. What I learned from this experience is, to be a leader, we're not necessarily be the team leader. It's all about what we have and what we do to develop and influence the other to be a better version of them.
