Explain how the proposed activity will assist your professional development

As a general dentist with a special interest in Oral Health Promotion (OHP), I appreciate that dentistry particularly Dental Public Health (DPH) specialty is mainly focusing on the prevention of oral disease and promoting oral health to the whole community rather than to the individuals. My active involvement with the OHP programs for 5 years has urged me to conduct an evaluation on the effectiveness of these programs in the future. Even though I was equipped with the basic knowledge of DPH during my undergraduate studies, research and evaluation training was very minimal.

Thus, I believe by obtaining a Master of Dental Public Health (MDPH) degree in the {name of uni in Australia} will provide better understanding on the principles and practice of planning and evaluating oral health interventions and oral health care systems. This can support with the evaluation on the effectiveness of the current OHP programs, especially on 'Daily Toothbrushing for Students Program' that aims to instill the habit of toothbrush as a daily culture both in schools and at home and in a long run, it will reduce the prevalence of dental decay among school children.

The MDPH also aims at recognizing major oral health problems of a community with their solutions. The incidence of dental decay in {country} is worrying hopefully the course will provide guidance on implementing a more effective water fluoridation program to the whole {country} population regardless of their social inequalities.

Having a dissertation in the course will provide opportunity to practice and experience in conducting clear research and formal writing at a professional standard. This is very beneficial for undertaking research and its training in {country}'s population oral health.

Overall, the MDPH will definitely assist my career development in such a way that I will understand the oral health issues better both in {country} and the international context with effective solutions.
