Scholarship / Japanese-European Master program - Erasmus mundus scholarship [2]

Japanese-European Master program application

Hey there! I am writing my motivational letter for the Japanese-European Masters in Advanced Robotics Program, indicating my interest in the Robotics Human interface.

Would really appreciate if you can take a look at it and give me some feedback on it.

Here's the Letter Template:
1- Personal intro
2- Recall of your undergraduate curriculum and highlight links to the JEMARO Master Program
3- State in short why you want to apply to JEMARO and why you chose a given robotics-related research topic (Control, Mechatronics - Robotics, Human Interface - Signal Processing, Comp Sci, Biological Info) to work on during the research track

4- Develop your strongest qualifications, past experiences, and qualities that will help you to succeed in JEMARO
5- Develop what will be your professional project after getting your master's degree

Motivation letter.

A turning point in my life occurred as I watched a documentary of NASA Mars Exploration Rover (2003), a point where The Spirit Mars rover and lander arrived successfully on the surface of Mars.

After the airbag-protected landing craft settled onto the surface, the rover rolled out to take panoramic images. These give scientists the information they need to select promising geological targets and drive to those locations to perform on-site scientific investigations.

The big game for me was how the robots rover could target rocks without human input and moved over the surface of Mars without being affected by radioactive waves.

What fascinated me was how the humans behind the mission controlled the robot rover principles by sending transmission on earth to the robots and could make decisions using artificial intelligence software like(AEGIS) that will cause effect on the movement, and the ability to make decisive changes on Mars.

My whole interest afterwards went to the formation on how robots could be used for a wide spectrum of researches to help‭ In the event of outbreak of contagious diseases e.g Ebola, COVID-19. In a developing country like mine the clamour for devices, systems, which are capable of long distance monitoring of isolated patients is usually high in other to protect medical specialists practitioners thereby preventing the widespread of such diseases.‬

Relating Robotics research in a case like this can cause solutions in such area where innovative measure needs balancing and a rapid change on how we interact with the world around us. To stay ahead in the fast changing world, one requires the ability to look beyond the present. Having worked with artificial Intelligence for more than 3 years and having gained in-depth knowledge of its importance and applications.

I am ready to move forward in the field of Robotics. To keep up with the advancements in this field and prepare myself to meet the demanding standards of this industry, I wish to pursue a graduate program in Robotics from École Centrale de Nantes.

During my undergraduate studies at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, I was excited by the diversity of the field of Mechanical Engineering.
My studies provided me with the technological advancement and competence in areas relating to design, building and testing of prototype. Courses like CAD and CAM, Control Systems, Theory of Machines, Machine Design and Manufacturing Process has revealed to me limitless horizons in the field of Mechanical Engineering. With this in mind I want to contribute to the intelligence part of Robotics. The problem of limited memory availability and processing power make the on-system implementation of AI algorithms, coordination strategies much more difficult, I want to contribute with optimization of algorithms and knowledge management strategies, actually I want to invent and innovate robots for applications in diverse fields to make bots smarter, cheaper, practical and more efficient in all sense possible. The 5 year degree undergraduate course has not only provided me strong fundamentals, but also has encouraged me to learn more and goaded me to continue research related activities.

During my final year project research, I had the opportunity to work in a team of four undergraduates under Engr.Dr. A.C. Uzorh in the design and fabrication of electric powered convection fish dryer which works on the principle of heat and mass transfer. I had a range of responsibilities within the team that involved a full spectrum of research, design, and construction. This experience gave me a real-world taste of how elegant mechanical engineering could be-I had the tools to integrate mechanical and electrical aspects in order to design a successful fish dryer. The greatest challenge during the project was completing the design and construction of the fish dryer over a short period; our team learned the value of efficient time management, maintaining focus, and good project planning.

This research work has helped me in realizing the need for maintaining a coherent educational system and training where the government should work towards improving our educational system and placing more emphasis on practical than theories.

I hereby wish to apply for the JEMARO programme because of its advancement in world class learning structures, which will provide me an In-depth scientific and technical knowledge of Robotics and related AI topics and the skills to use this knowledge effectively and also the Capacity to adopt the most suitable methods for the problem at hand and select the technological components needed to implement the proposed solution based on an ongoing research development for the use of robotics in the age of this pandemic(2021) in the integration of robots as a shielding layer, physically separating the healthcare worker and patient, as a powerful tool to combat the omnipresent fear of pathogen of COVID-19 contamination and maintain surgical volumes.

I have chosen the Robotics-Human Interface research topic of the Jemaro programme because I tend to explore on the artificial Intelligence part of this research.

I would love to get involved in research work in the area of Robotics-Human Interface topics because of the knowledge I stand to get in the interaction between humans and robots. Although there is a vast scope for research in this area which commiserate with the scope for which I want to study Robotics-Human Interface which in Nigeria is limited. The need for exposure to a wider environment has prompted me to seek an opportunity to study in France. During the research field I will like to gain in-depth knowledge in Human-Agent Interaction, Interactive AI, Intelligent Robot by professor Imai, Michita.

I have gained strong preparation to help me realize both my personal and professional goals. Since completing my undergraduate degree with a second class upper grade, I have considered the need for increasing my horizon. Over the years, I have been working on Artificial intelligence with gross knowledge of python programming language, where I gained background in systems that relates to robotics

With in-depth knowledge of how artificial Intelligence relates to robotics, I have been able to work on different projects including "Artificial intelligence Healthcare chatbot system", and also projects on speech recognition that can play a role in communication of robots and humans.

I have taken online courses on Professional Certificate in Human-Robot Interaction by University of Canterbury (UCx), a platform that prepares scholars on vast areas of Robotics.

Jointly with the knowledge I have gotten from my bachelors degree as a mechanical engineer with background study on manufacturing processes which is an added advantage.

Working on these project involves organizational and leadership skills. As a member of artificial Intelligence movement in Port Harcourt for three years, I have been involved in deep learning projects.

Where I have mentored over 50 high school students at a conference to interact with current changes in the workspace of deep learning sciences and participate in workshops in programming. The numerous accomplishments gotten during my term, such as initiating engineering department gatherings and arranging fund- raising activities, demonstrate my leadership skills and ability to plan and complete successful projects. My motivation also is evidenced by my involvement in the national youth service Corp in a federal school (FSTC) Ekiti State, Nigeria. As the mathematics teacher, I organize tutoring sessions for engineering core classes and participate in community development services(Cds). I have successfully brought this active participation in research to the students I have taught, classes I have designed and taught in mathematics and further mathematics. These teaching experiences have confirmed that I have the desire and aptitude to convey my knowledge of sciences to others. Though my position in the science department in the school provided significant teaching satisfaction and latitude that have helped students achieve the aim of a satisfied education.

A future career goal of mine is to work in partnership with advanced countries like France in Robotics to enhance knowledge in the scientific field, establishing ties that will help Nigeria in areas where innovation is needed to solve problems in the society.

Where I will like to tackle majorly issues relating to healthcare and bring a stable economy growth by 30%.
