Graduate / Statement of Purpose for Visual Communication Postgraduate Dip course [2]
Hi, I need help with my statement of purpose for PgDip in Visual Communication at London College of Communication. Here is what i have come up with so far. Would appreciate feedback. The ___ indicates i lack a suitable word.
A picture is worth more than a thousand words. And it has never been more true than in today's visually intensive society. I have a keen interest to study the postgraduate diploma degree at London College of Communication. The LCC is a well established institution for the Arts, and studying there will not only give me the strong foundation and creative insight that I am looking to learn on the course but also improve my credentials? as a visual artist and designer. Since it is part of the University of the Arts, interactions with recognized designers during courses, workshops and critiques will provide opportunities that I will not possibly enjoy in other art schools. Being located in London, one of the most vibrant and influential cities makes it an even better choice for choosing LCC for my postgraduate diploma.
Art has always been an integral part of my life. Elementary and High school saw me not only achieve high academic scores, but excel in numerous art, dance and theatre events. I completed my Bachelor's in Computer Engineering with distinction honours from PCCE Goa, India. I excelled in Graphics and acquired a stronghold on perspective and 2 and 3 dimensional drawing. All through this time, I continued to involve myself with Art...through sketching, painting, writing prose and dance. In my final year, I participated in a "newspaper scripting" inter-collegiate competition, which won us the First place. I was involved in preparing the content for the newspaper and designing and writing it.
I worked at Interface Systems Group, a company in Bombay, India which gave me an opportunity to work on the entire software lifecycle for a web based application by myself for the most part - from designing the web interface to developing the code for it. I joined Infosys Technologies, where I presently work. I have worked on web portals, windows applications, UML modeling to name a few. I have always been a problem solver and my analytical and problem solving skills have been sharpened through the years. The visual element has also been improved. I have travelled several places and in this time I have been able to imbibe several cultures and different art forms. I lived in Bristol, UK for two years and I was introduced to artists like Banksy whose bold work I have grown to love. I think Visual Communication is about creating visually striking images that send out an instant, although sometimes subtle, message to the audience. I am keen to be able to use the knowledge and skill that I will learn on this course to bring awareness about issues that need addressing such as climate change, social issues_____. I am also eager to use Graphic Design to reach out to the public in areas that are important to people such as music __________. I am interested in Illustration, Typography and Black & White Photography, since I find these to be very effective in striking a chord with the viewer. I am highly proficient in computer applications.
Since I lack a formal first degree in Visual Communication, I think the course will be ideal as a bridge for further (masters) course and to gain a strong foundation in design. I aspire to learn the new and use the old ideas and concepts__________
I know its not complete, im still working on the ending...any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mandy
