Which university are you applying to" seems to be the only question people think of upon sight of me in any conversation, which frankly all involve me. Never in my life have I been so accessible, seemingly awaiting to be devoured by sharks, who swiftly attack with comments of "you should opt for x," or "try going for y," or "all companies hire from z" It was through one such comment that I came across the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Of course, I was initially skeptical, as doubt naturally arises when little is known of a venture. But the man kept nudging, saying it was my best option. So taking the advice with a grain of salt (given he was a shark), I decided to find what made this university so special.
The story begins with my interest in math and physics as a high school sophomore. What really fascinated me was the logic behind the proofs, the way every theorem and every law seamlessly joined hands and sequentially contributed their efforts to give birth to a new law, a new equation. . And what made the whole thing even better was when I realized I could craft creativity into it. When I could come up with new ways of looking at a problem and propose a different and more innovative solution. And so began the phase I call ' inception'. The stage where I learned to harness my skill rather than letting it go to waste. The funny thing is, you never know how much you really know unless you believe you do, and for me, believing was vital. So, with that in mind, I gave something new a shot and decided to believe in the old man. And this time, the shark didn't bite, instead blessed.
I begin with the most crucial aspect of anybody's life: social experiences, which ultimately shape who you are and, contrary to popular belief, are equally as important as your major. The first thing that really got me excited was the Wisconsin speech and debate society. This society would help my speaking skills attain a new dimension. Knowing that the organization won its first-ever rambler in just its second time competing, the laurel speaks for itself. I believe that my speaking skills, and most importantly, my resolution to stick with a particular thing until I perfect it, could soon bring more laurels to decorate. Next, we talk about the intended major. Here I found myself in a 'bit of a pickle since I couldn't quite decide between mechanical engineering or computer science; both involve physics and math, and both incorporate the right mix of creativity and logic. Although the dilemma took considerable time and reflection, eventually, I opted for computer science as my interests seemed more streamlined with technology and programming, with math forming the backbone of my future coding pursuits. And plus, the CS department exhibits some impressive features, such as the WISCERS program for research, CSLC for students who require some extra help in courses, etc. And then there's the faculty, which impressed me, and I am very excited to study with Prof. Marc Renault for CS200 and Meenakshi Syamkumar for CS220. Then, of course, we get real-time insight into the impact of any institution on the world through its most crucial asset, the students. And knowing recently 2 UW Madison graduates, Margaret Fortman and Shashank Rajput, have been awarded 2022 google fellowships, It seems the school is giving quite the blow, something I would be honored to contribute to.
As I mentioned earlier, believing was vital in many successful endeavors. Just as my belief in the old man helped me discover the remarkable features of this school, your belief in me could help us create marvelous synergy together.
