Letters / Information Engineering - Letter of Motivation for Bachelor [3]
Dear Admission Committee,
I am XX XXXXXX, a second-year student pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at YYY University in Bangladesh. I am writing to express my strong interest in applying for admission to your B.Sc. in Information Engineering program. I believe that my solid academic foundation, relevant work experience in Information Technology, and genuine passion for electronics make me a strong candidate for this program and that this B.Sc. program will propel me toward my goal of working as an Embedded Systems Engineer at a top German electronics manufacturer (e.g., Siemens)
From a young age, the world of electronics captivated me thanks to my father, an electrician whose tools became my playground for exploration and discovery. This early exposure ignited a hidden passion, fueling my curiosity about the intricacies of electronic devices. This led me to enroll in the CSE program, where I studied Structured Programming Language and Objec-Oriented Programming (C++), learning how programming can solve complex problems and automate tasks. Courses like Electrical and Electronics Engineering deepened my understanding of modern electronics and circuitry. To prepare well for my degree and future studies, I took extra courses beyond my curriculum. I completed CS50X: Introduction to Computer Science by Harvard, where I learned how to code in C, Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as other important topics like algorithms, data structures, and cybersecurity. Additionally, I studied Machine Learning with Python, gaining insights into how computers can learn from data using methods like K-Nearest Neighbors and Random Forests. These courses inspired me to create intelligent systems.
Alongside my studies, I gained valuable experience working part-time as an IT Technician at a local electronics shop, where I was responsible for repairing hardware and software issues and building custom computers. This role solidified my understanding of technology and technical systems. Moreover, I worked on a personal project inspired by my blind grandmother, who often struggled with mobility. This motivated me to create a "Smart Stick" using an Arduino Uno, ultrasonic sensors, and a buzzer to help detect obstacles and ensure her safety. This project taught me how to program electronic devices with programming, deepening my knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT) and demonstrating how technology can address real-life challenges. It reinforced my aspiration to become an Embedded Systems Engineer, where I can continue developing innovative solutions to make a positive impact.
What makes XXX University's Information Engineering program most appealing to me is its unique combination of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with a strong focus on practical experience through lab work, student projects, and an industry internship. The opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world applications will provide me with invaluable hands-on experience in my field. I would particularly look forward to taking the courses "Electrical Engineering" (which will give me a deep understanding of essential electrical principles), "Software Construction" (where I will build a strong foundation in programming), "Microcontrollers" (which will provide me with the skills to design and program embedded systems), and "Digital Systems" (where I will learn to create and optimize state machines and digital circuits). These courses, among others, would help me build a solid foundation for a future career in eco-friendly and forward-thinking electronic manufacturing, especially in the field of embedded systems.
Studying at XX University is an ideal fit for me, not only because of its excellent academic reputation demonstrated by its 'Excellence in Teaching' award but also because of its welcoming diverse community. With around 15% of students coming from international backgrounds, I would feel at home on its cozy campus in the heart of Hamburg. Programs like WeBuddy, which support international students during their initial days, make the transition smoother, ensuring a strong support system right from the start. I was particularly inspired by the research project "The Electronic Dog" led by Prof. Dr. Lutz Leutelt, which aims to assist visually impaired individuals like my grandmother. This project resonated deeply with me, strengthening my desire to study at XXX University. Furthermore, having faced challenges myself, I understand the value of proper guidance and mental well-being. I would like to contribute to the campus community by receiving Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) training through campuls to support fellow students. In my senior year, I hope to give back by becoming a Buddy Guard, helping new international students adapt and immerse themselves in Hamburg's multicultural environment.
Thank you for the consideration, and for the opportunity of applying to this program. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
XX XXXXXX
