Scholarship / Compliance/Internal Control Manager - Leadership and influence-Chevening [3]

Community involvement, experiences, and personal development played a decisive role in developing my leadership skills. My leadership journey began when I was appointed the head of the drama ministry in my church. I was given many responsibilities, such as managing, organizing, and directing the team's rehearsals and performances and ensuring the spiritual and personal development of the youth I was leading.

I was committed to educating them, creating a space to boost their self-confidence, and helping them express themselves without fear through drama. This role developed my leadership and time management skills and encouraged the youth to discover their hidden talents.

While completing my bachelor's degree at Stella Maris Polytechnic University, I joined the International Association of Students in Economics and Business, AIESEC-a campus-based organization dedicated to building leadership skills among students and young people.

While at AIESEC, I was trained to visit high schools to raise awareness among Liberian students about Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation. Through this visit, I educate youth about clean water, sanitation, and how to prevent water pollution to improve community hygiene and health. AIESEC helped develop my public speaking and teaching skills because I was nervous and tense. I also learned about the global development goals and what they meant locally. From this, I have gained many ideas to promote spiritual and cultural growth by supporting youth meetings/training and annuals.

As a Compliance/Internal Control Manager, I lead a team and develop colleagues to comply with legal requirements and establish a strong work ethic. This job impacts my decision-making and develops my communication skills. It also allows me to lead by example and maintain integrity and transparency in everything I do. I decided that the knowledge I would gain in public health would help improve the health of Liberia, stone by stone, and develop my leadership skills in this area. As the Compliance/Internal Control officer, I work with other departments to develop policies and procedures. This partnership requires constant communication, a foundation of trust, and building relationships between partners. I have set up an automated process to hold monthly meetings on compliance issues. These meetings strengthen our collaboration and help us understand the problems we face. This allows us to address compliance issues better and improve the integrity of our business. I have engaged in workshops for open discussion and collaboration. Creating these connections helps the project succeed and provides youth and community involvement opportunities. These events help create lines of support for participants and the broader community.
