"Detail Oriented and Dependable" - UBC application essay: Tell Us About Who You [3]
Tell us about who you are. How would your family, friends, and/or members of your community describe you? If possible, please include something about yourself that you are most proud of and why. (Maximum 1500 characters)When asked by those who know me best, my family and friends, they would often describe me as someone who is both detail-oriented and dependable. My teacher once told me, "I know I can count on you to handle things, you always put so much thought and care into everything you take on."
These traits were put to the test when I was placed as an executive member of the graduate council at my school to organize the food for our Winter Formal. This responsibility required me to plan everything from start to finish, from selecting which areas to use, to choosing the food that fit the budget, and planning the overall setup. I collaborated with my team to ensure that everything would run smoothly during the event. I ensured that everything was neatly organized; I created an accessible file so that the entire team could easily follow the plan.
As a result, I am most proud of how much I have grown as a leader and team member. This experience taught me the importance of clear communication and collaboration. I learned to assign tasks as needed and ensure that everyone on my team felt included. I was able to recognize that every member of the group is important and plays a valuable role, and not to disregard them simply because they are not the head. I realized the importance of listening to other's opinions in the process.
I'm excited to bring these skills to the UBC community, where I hope to apply them to student organizations and make a positive difference.
This is what I have so far to answer this prompt. I feel like I'm talking too much about myself and not enough about how others see me. I'm not sure what to do, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
