Undergraduate / My Family - What is important to you? And why? UBC Application [2]
Hello, this is my first time posting on here! Im not a native English speaker so any feedback on the essay is appreciated. Does my essay answer the prompt?
"My family has always played a huge role in my life. Coming from a huge extended family, my mom has 3 sisters, we would spend every major holiday together at my aunt's house, catching up on life. This made my family tight-knit, someone you can rely on no matter what. This was made all the more clear to me after a difficult time in my life.
My mom passed when I was around 7, and my dad at 14. I was left an orphan, with a brother to take care of. I thought it would be me against the world. But to my surprise, my aunt took me in and raised me as her own. She supported me throughout senior high and comforted me through the sudden loss, while she was handling the loss of a sister herself.
It still baffles me how much kindness and warmth they have exerted on me, like something that only happens in movies. I want to make them proud and accomplish great feats to show them the person they've raised. They've shaped me into the person I am today, as I would be nowhere without them by my side."
