Undergraduate / PERSONAL ESSAY - STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Chemistry Department & Internship Opportunity) [2]

The IEA's 2024 World Energy Employment Report reveals a paradox: green energy jobs now outnumber fossil fuel ones, yet the shortage of skilled professionals slows the transition. This gap drives my pursuit in green chemistry, focusing on transforming natural resources into sustainable materials to tackle energy and climate issues. Joining ISEP at KFUPM is a decisive step toward shaping my mindset as an open, research-driven, and impact-focused future chemist. Beyond classroom learning, I plan to build collaborative research with Saudi and international peers and professors-combining our countries' strengths, such as Indonesia's initiative to convert palm waste into clean fuel, and offering solutions with Saudi modern technology. Additionally, an internship at Aramco would enrich this journey by letting me observe how green chemistry principles are applied at an industrial level.

I am especially enthusiastic about KFUPM's involvement in the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (IRC-SES), which aligns with my academic direction. Courses like Chemistry of the Environment (CHEM 431) and Industrial Catalysis (CHEM 463) strongly support the focus of my ongoing thesis-developed during my internship at Bayer Indonesia-on the physicochemical stability of active compounds in pesticide formulations. As a continuation of this, I aim to deepen my study by utilizing KFUPM's advanced laboratory facilities and expert mentorship, laying a strong foundation for future research in sustainable agriculture and paving the way toward a potential PhD in this field.

Academically, I rank among the top five students in my major (GPA 3.48/4.00). My interest in applying chemistry to real-world cases was demonstrated when I led a team in the Entrepreneurial Student Creativity Competition at Universitas Airlangga. Initially, our group faced internal conflict due to differing ideas. As a team leader, I facilitated open dialogue, guiding the team to focus on local resources and product potential. Ultimately, we chose fish bone waste as our raw material-an innovative decision that helped us win first place at the faculty level.

Beyond research, I have a deep passion for teaching. As a laboratory assistant in the general chemistry lab, I created step-by-step visual guides that helped students navigate unclear instructions, improving both performance and reports. Over the past three years, I've also tutored more than 100 high school students in A/AS-Level Chemistry, adapting to different personalities and learning styles. These experiences deepened my love for always being surrounded by academic environments, where I thrive on exchanging ideas, solving problems, and mentoring others. Therefore, I'm eager to grow in KFUPM's intellectually driven environment and in Saudi Arabia, a place I believe offers a safe space to learn and voice my thoughts on global industry issues.

As a woman in STEM from a developing country, this journey is more than academic-it is a step toward building a more inclusive scientific community. I am committed to expanding my knowledge from KFUPM's world-class ecosystem while sharing Indonesia's role in contributing to a healthier earth through sustainable industry efforts. Through this mutual exchange, I hope to bring long-term value to KFUPM, UNAIR, and Indonesia.
