Undergraduate / UC prompt #2: creativity in making my own clothes [NEW]
I have difficulties with introduction and conclusion.
I don't know whether they are appropriate.
There are many grammar errors. Could anyone correct my grammar mistakes?
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person you are?
"Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns." said Edward de Bono, the well known the originator of the term lateral thinking.
Ever since I was young, I liked to deviate from the sameness, and thus I wanted be different from others, especially the fashion style. I preferred to wear in a different way to express my own style and individuality. Spontaneously, the preference instigated me to make my own clothes that are the only one in the world rather than to buy. Through the process of making my own clothes, the creativeness developed technical skills and even personal quality significantly.
To create the unique clothes, the first essential thing was the basic knowledge about making clothes. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to take Sewing class in my 7th grade. In the class, I learned a variety of my technical skills from straight line to buttonhole. As a result, I made a sweater, pants, a pillow cover, and a bag. Although these were my handmade works, I actually used the designs that already supplied from the class. I expected more creative clothes that nobody owns or thinks about. Consequently, I persuaded my parents for several months to acquire my own sewing machine to produce the special clothes at home.
While I continued to consider making unique clothes, I saw my brother's dress shirt and my mom's long suspender dress in the trashcan. As I asked reasons why they trashed the clothes, they replied that the shirt got a bleached spot on the collar, and the dress was too dowdy to wear in these days. All of the sudden, an idea hit my brain and I exclaimed "Eureka!" Transforming the old or little damaged clothes to new style clothes would be an innovative idea. My first production was a short pleated skirt made by jeans that was in my closet for years. Later on, I transformed clothes in diverse looks. I changed my brother's dress shirt to a casual dress, my mom's long dress to a short business dress, a collar shirt with several tiny holes to a halter neck long shirt, and a long black prom dress to a formal vast.
In fact, making clothes requires a lot of scrupulousness, concentration, patience, and time. For instance, I have to focus on the stitch line while sewing because it might be crooked. If the line is crooked, I need to unstitch and sew again. Sometimes, the repetitive work of stitching and unstitching caused by unexpected mistakes instigates me to give up and quit. However, it is always a gratifying achievement when I wear the elaborately finished clothes; when my friends or someone asked me where I bought these clothes; and when I see my friends' pleased face after presenting the clothes.
As like the quote by Bono, if I did not have creativity, there would not be any progress in myself. However, I proudly can tell that I have strong concentration, scrupulousness, and patience. Thus, theses strong personal qualities absolutely lead me to success in my life.
